How to design a bathroom
When it comes to designing a bathroom, most interior designers recommend choosing timeless finishes for a primary or master bathroom — especially when selecting permanent fixtures like a shower enclosure, tile, and cabinetry.
Since you probably won’t want to remodel your bathroom again anytime soon, it’s usually a good idea to stay with timeless bathroom finishes, colors, and fixtures that will look beautiful for years to come.
Here are a few tips for designing a timeless bathroom:
- Choose neutral colors like white, gray, blue, black, or natural wood for the vanities and linen cabinets.
- Timeless bathroom tile ideas include marble, ceramic, or porcelain tile in classic shades of white and gray.
- Choose natural stone options for vanity countertops, keeping in mind that marble countertops might need a bit more care than quartz or quartzite.
- Add in some color, personality, and texture with artwork, towels, rugs, plants, and window coverings.
- For a quick and easy bathroom update, try adding in some modern artwork, a statement light fixture, or new drawer pulls on the cabinets to give your space a more modern look.
- Feel free to loosen up a bit when designing and decorating a powder bathroom, where colorful accents, patterned wallpaper, and unique lighting, faucet, and mirror choices are not only okay, but the norm!
- If you want to mix metal finishes in the bathroom, I recommend choosing a classic metal finish like polished nickel, chrome, brass, or bronze for permanent fixtures like faucets and lighting. Then, use your secondary metal finish on bathroom mirrors, drawer and door pulls, towel bars, etc.
