Timeless bathroom design
When designing a primary or master bathroom, interior designers recommend choosing timeless finishes — especially for permanent elements like a shower enclosure, floor and shower tile, and cabinetry.
To keep your bathroom looking fresh and relevant, it’s usually a good idea to stay with timeless bathroom finishes, colors, and fixtures that will look beautiful for years to come.
Tips for designing a timeless bathroom
- Choose neutral colors like white, gray, blue, black, or natural wood for the vanities and linen cabinets.
- Timeless bathroom tile ideas include marble, ceramic, or porcelain tile in classic shades.
- Choose natural stone options for vanity countertops, keeping in mind that marble countertops might need a bit more care than quartz or quartzite.
- Add in some color, personality, and texture with artwork, towels, rugs, plants, and window coverings.

- For a quick and easy bathroom update, try adding in some modern artwork, a statement light fixture, or new drawer pulls on the cabinets to give your space a more modern look.
- Feel free to loosen up a bit when designing and decorating a powder room, where colorful accents, statement wallpaper, and unique lighting, faucet, and mirror choices are the norm!
If you want to mix metal finishes in the bathroom, I recommend choosing a classic metal finish like polished nickel, chrome, brass, or bronze for permanent fixtures like faucets and lighting.
Then, use your secondary metal finish on bathroom mirrors, drawer and door pulls, towel bars, etc.

March 15, 2026 at 5:19 amThank you for all of the inspiration! I have a door leading into my bathroom with black fixtures and all of my doors in that hallway have them as well. I am renovating my bathroom and love the idea of brushed nickel and brass or champagne gold colors. Would I need to change my bathroom door fixtures? I’m concerned it would be the only door that looks different from the hallway. Should I incorporate the black elsewhere? Thank you!

March 15, 2026 at 7:09 amHi Desiree! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Since all the other door fixtures in your hallway are black, I would suggest keeping the bathroom door fixtures black as well. Black is such a neutral shade that once your bathroom renovation is done, I have a feeling you won’t even notice the door fixtures are different — however, if it does end up bothering you, you could always change at some point down the road. And I don’t think you need to add a touch of black in your bathroom unless you want to. I hope this helps in some way, and I wish you all the best with your bathroom updates. I know it will be beautiful! xo Jane
