When you love home decor, a new year always feels like a fresh canvas. And, while timeless design never truly goes out of style, every year brings a shift in what people are loving, pinning, renovating, and bringing into their homes.
As we head into 2026, something exciting is happening: American interiors are becoming warmer, softer, more personal, and beautifully layered, with an emphasis on comfort, craftsmanship, and effortless everyday living.
AKB Design Studio – Sylvie Li Photography
With that in mind, today I’m sharing the 10 interior design styles predicted to rise in popularity for 2026 — many of which you’ll be seeing in new builds, remodels, magazine features, and (of course!) all over Pinterest and Instagram.
Top 10 Interior Design Styles for 2026
1. Modern Coastal
You know I love this one — and coastal style is only becoming more popular in 2026.
AKB Design Studio – Sylvie Li Photography – pendants – stools
The modern coastal look is no longer about literal beach decor, seashells, or kitschy nautical themes.
Pure Salt Interiors – console table
Instead, it’s effortless, light-filled, warm, and elevated.
AKB Design Studio – Sylvie Li Photography
Think creamy neutrals, soft blues and greens, natural textures, raffia and rattan accents, organic curves, and weathered woods.
Brooke Wagner – Brandon Architects – Patterson Custom Homes
Homes will feel breezy and relaxed, yet refined, like the best parts of a seaside afternoon — even if you live far from the coast.
Design elements to watch for:
- Light, sandy neutrals paired with sea glass greens and soft blue
- Coastal modern cabinetry in warm white oak
- Linen, cotton, stonewashed bedding and slipcovered seating
- Cane, woven lighting, and handmade pottery
- Coastal artwork without feeling theme-y

2. Organic Modern
This style dominated 2025 and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Organic modern blends clean lines with natural elements — warm woods, stone, limewash walls, rounded furniture forms, and layered neutral fabrics.
Organic modern spaces feel effortlessly calm and grounded, yet luxurious.
In organic modern homes, expect to see:
- Plaster and microcement finishes
- Oversized, sculptural lighting
- Bouclé and textured upholstery
- Low, deep, comfortable seating
- Earthy palettes with subtle black accents

3. Quiet Luxury / Tailored Modern
Inspired by the fashion world, quiet luxury in interiors is polished, minimal, and understated — but high-quality.
Ali Henrie Design – Lindsay Salazar Photography
Think textured neutrals, tailored silhouettes, simple luxury, and fewer — but better — pieces.
This style feels grown-up, timeless, and investment-driven.

Key elements of quiet luxury style include:
- Warm neutral color schemes
- European white oak floors
- Streamlined furniture
- Brass, champagne, or brushed nickel metals
- Beautiful textiles and finishes instead of bold color

4. European Farmhouse
Rustic charm meets modern refinement. 2026 brings a softer, more romantic interpretation of farmhouse style — less shiplap and industrial metal, more limewash, muted palettes, reclaimed wood, plaster lighting, and European antiques mixed with modern pieces.
In European Farmhouse style, you’ll see:
- Stone or brick floors
- Soft white or creamy cabinets
- Classic iron lighting
- Copper accents
- Cozy, collected styling

5. Coastal Grandmother 2.0
Our beloved coastal grandmother look isn’t going anywhere in 2026 — it’s just evolving.

Think Nancy Meyers, but a bit more modern, fresh, and slightly polished.
Studio McGee – lantern pendants
Trends within this style include:
- Breezy linen drapery
- Slipcovered seating
- Hydrangeas and pottery galore
- Blue-and-white without being matchy
- Layered, welcoming, collected spaces

6. Japandi Style (Natural Minimalism)
Japandi has held steady for years and is gaining momentum as homeowners crave more serenity and simplicity. And while I don’t know a lot about this style, I do think it’s beautiful.
Wood tones, sculptural shapes, negative space, soft lighting, and thoughtful storage make this a peaceful, clutter-free style.
Highlights of Japandi style include:
- Natural wood cabinetry
- Soft, low seating
- Minimal décor
- Handmade ceramics
- Soft neutral color palettes
7. Modern Traditional
Sometimes called “new traditional,” this style blends classic American design — moldings, paneling, built-ins, and antique furniture — with fresh colors, updated lighting, and streamlined silhouettes.
It feels familiar, cozy, timeless — and yet completely current.
In modern traditional style, expect to see:
- Muted, rich paint colors (greens, blues, warm neutrals)
- Patterned rugs and upholstery
- Layered textiles
- Statement chandeliers and pendants
- Gallery walls and collected decor
8. Modern Mediterranean
Warm terra cotta tones, curved architecture, arched doorways, iron windows, and organic stone details are making a major comeback, especially in kitchens.
Intimate Living Interiors – similar counter stools
Mediterranean style in 2026 feels fresh — not rustic or heavy — thanks to minimal ornamentation and a softer palette.

Modern Mediterranean ideas to consider:
- Plaster hoods
- Natural stone counters
- Arches and curved millwork
- Mixed metal finishes
- Moroccan or Spanish tile

9. Scandinavian
This isn’t the stark minimalism of the mid-2010s. Rather, 2026 Scandinavian style is warm, cozy, and hygge-driven — think candles, soft throws, low lighting, pale wood floors, and comfortable seating.
Key design notes of Scandinavian style include:
- Warm neutrals and soft woods
- Layered textures
- Clean-lined furniture mixed with cozy textiles
- Simple, uncluttered styling
See my post on Scandinavian Design for more ways to bring this style to your home.
10. Modern Boutique Hotel Style
As people continue entertaining at home and spending more time in their living spaces, there’s a desire to make every day feel special.
The “boutique hotel at home” trend creates elevated, comfortable spaces with beautiful lighting, rich textures, curated art, and spa-like bedrooms and bathrooms.

Design hallmarks of modern boutique hotel style include:
- Velvet, boucle, and linen blend fabrics
- Beautiful drapery and bedding
- Ambient lighting

- Calming, uncluttered layouts
- Coffee bars, beverage stations, and cozy seating areas

Bonus Trend: Grandpa Chic
One of the most charming micro-trends emerging for winter into spring 2026 is what many designers are calling “Grandpa Chic” — a nostalgic, cozy, and slightly eclectic style inspired by the comfort of a well-loved study or sitting room.
AKB Design Studio – similar chair
Picture warm woods, vintage books, leather chairs, classic plaids, framed sketches, and the kinds of timeless accessories you imagine a beloved grandfather collecting over the years.
This style blends beautifully with modern design by adding depth, character, and a sense of history to newer homes.
AKB Design Studio – Sylvie Li Photography
It’s thoughtful, grounded, and deeply personal — proving that sometimes the most stylish spaces are the ones that feel storied and lived-in.
We’re seeing a shift away from “fast decor” and toward lasting quality — so whether your style is coastal, romantic, minimal, or collected, there’s something beautiful to embrace in the year ahead.
Interior design in 2026 is all about personal comfort, modern craftsmanship, and the pleasure of home.
