My husband and I recently spent the weekend in downtown Denver, and one of the highlights of our stay was visiting the beautiful Restoration Hardware gallery just a couple of blocks from our hotel. Even though my style isn’t quite as modern or minimal as RH, I still love this aesthetic and came home with all sorts of ideas I think would work perfectly with just about any decorating style.
With that in mind, today I’m taking a look at Restoration Hardware interior design, including easy ways to bring an elevated look to your home for less, images of beautiful interiors that reflect this aesthetic, places to shop for Restoration Hardware style decor in 2024, and more.
Whether you’re already a fan of Restoration Hardware or are simply wondering what this style is all about, I hope you’ll find some helpful ideas and inspiration in this post.
First, what interior design style is Restoration Hardware?
I’m sure there are many different ways to define Restoration Hardware style, but one way to describe this aesthetic is modern luxury.
A Restoration Hardware space usually incorporates clean lines, neutral hues, oversized furniture, abstract artwork, symmetry, luxurious textiles, gilded mirrors, and glamorous metallic lighting.
Since Restoration Hardware also features contemporary, beach house, modern, and ski house designer collections, this style could also be described as transitional, French country, organic modern, or California casual.
No matter how you define it, the Restoration Hardware interior design style is always beautiful, chic, and timeless.
The stylish space shown below, which I shared in my entryway ideas post, was designed by RH Interior Design for actress Kerry Washington’s New York apartment.

How to bring Restoration Hardware style to your home
Visiting the RH showroom is a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend it. Not only did my appreciation for this design style expand, I came home with a fresh perspective and lots of new ideas for our home.

However, if you don’t have an RH gallery nearby, you can always look through the online catalogs — they’re also a great source of design inspiration.
If you’d like to bring this aesthetic to your home, start with oversized neutral rugs in natural fibers like wool, jute, or cotton.
Then accent your spaces with large coffee table books, bowls and planters filled with moss, large artwork, touches of brass, and soft cashmere throws and velvet pillows in neutral hues.
Lighting is almost always oversized and layered, with an interesting mix of floor lamps, table lamps, sconces, picture lights, and statement chandeliers.
You can absolutely create this look in your home without spending a lot of money. It’s all about the styling.
Focus on a neutral color palette, solids rather than patterns, symmetry and balance, a mix of hard and soft elements, and — when in doubt — go big!

Then add your own unique touch by incorporating treasured items from your travels, books that have special meaning to you, and original artwork.
A visit to any designer showroom, whether it’s Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Serena & Lily, Crate & Barrel, Arhaus, BR Home, or West Elm, is a great way to expand your vision for your home and gather ideas for new ways of styling your spaces with pieces you already own.
Slowly wander through and take note of how they’ve styled the beds, sofas, and coffee tables, what color schemes you’re drawn to, what you like and dislike about each space, etc.
You’ll come home with a fresh perspective, clarity, and renewed creative energy for decorating your home.
I loved the soothing feeling of this beautiful bedroom. Hanging mirrors over the nightstands is an easy way to create a bit of drama and make your bedroom look larger.
Restoration Hardware Decorating Ideas: How to Get the Look in Your Home
Below, you’ll find a few photos I snapped as we wandered through the gallery, along with some tips and ideas for incorporating the Restoration Hardware aesthetic in your home.
No matter what design style you prefer, or what kind of budget you’re working with, the elements you’ll find in these spaces provide some great ideas for adding an elevated look to any space in your home.
Restoration Hardware style is based on a calming color palette, complete with soft neutral tones and textures, as shown in this luxurious bedroom:
You’ll see a lot of symmetry in this style (which I love), as well as white furniture, neatly folded throws and blankets, show-stopping light fixtures, and super-sized plants in earthenware pots.
Some things I loved about this space were the layered bed linens — they’re simple and not overwhelming or overdone — the dark artwork balancing out the white bedding, the mirrors on either side of the bed, and the curtains hung at ceiling height.
A mix of hard surfaces, like marble and brass, mixed with soft textures, like velvet and plush rugs, creates instant visual interest and a feeling of quiet luxury in any space.
The gray velvet sofa, mixed with the warm brass elements and marble coffee table, creates a nice balance of tones and textures in this living room:
We saw lots of large bowls and planters filled with moss, which is such a great idea for decorating a coffee table! It’s also an easy way to add a bit of color to a space.
By the way, Amazon is a great source for decorative moss.
This is a great idea for styling the dining room, as well. I loved the sophisticated yet casual California coastal look of the dining space shown below. The dining chairs were on casters, which I thought was a great idea.
If you love coastal style, Restoration Hardware has an entire beach house collection filled with gorgeous California coastal style furniture and decor — and even some beautiful blues. It’s a great source of contemporary coastal inspiration.
My posts on California Casual Style Decorating Ideas for Your Home, Nancy Meyers style, beach house design, and modern coastal style also share more on this look.
Every space in the RH gallery featured balance and symmetry, via repeated decorations, matching nightstands, sofas facing each other, matching lamps, double cabinets and mirrors, etc.
Even though I usually find symmetry very soothing, this space might be a bit too symmetrical for me!
Most of the spaces in the gallery also featured oversized rugs, with all the furniture legs sitting on the rug, for an instant feeling of quiet luxury.
Everything was super-sized: the plants, the lighting, the rugs, the artwork, the coffee tables, and the seating. I loved this white sectional — I wonder how many people it could seat!
All the beds were simply styled and beautifully made. It made me realize how much I love a calm, minimal look in the bedroom.
Every space was decorated in tones of beige, neutral, white, black, and gray. You’d think it would be boring, but I found the soft, neutral color palette very soothing.
I love the use of black mixed with warm wood tones in this elegant bedroom.
The top floor of the gallery had an indoor/outdoor showroom featuring their outdoor furniture collections. I loved the elegant look of the vibrant green topiaries and boxwoods mixed with the white and black furniture, lighting, and pillows!

For more ideas, here are a few spaces from interior designers I admire that beautifully reflect the elements of contemporary classic style.
You’ll see lots of clean lines, brass elements, neutral color palettes, oversized lighting and artwork, marble, stone, symmetry, large plants, and pops of black in these spaces.

Where to shop
If you love this look but don’t want to pay full price, my first recommendation would be to check out the Restoration Hardware outlet stores. This is probably the best way to get the RH look for less.
Below are a few brands and places to shop for similar decorative accent pieces, rugs, lighting, artwork, and furniture.
In my opinion, the store with the closest style is Arhaus. Arhaus style is also modern, luxurious, and timeless, and their prices can be a bit more affordable, as they run regular sales.

A few thoughts on Restoration Hardware style
I loved sharing my visit to the RH gallery with you — it’s a great place to gather inspiration, and I hope you found some helpful ideas in this post.
To me, there’s something truly unique about Restoration Hardware’s contemporary yet timeless approach to interior decorating that can’t be found elsewhere.
By the way, this post wasn’t sponsored and I’m not connected with Restoration Hardware in any way.
The RH gallery personnel were kind enough to allow me to take some photos as we walked through, and I wanted to share my experience and offer some personal thoughts on this decorating style.
Also, my intention for this post isn’t about achieving an expensive look or impressing others. Your home should capture the essence of your dream life, whatever that means to you.
