Over the years, I think I’ve embraced nearly every home decor style — from shabby chic to farmhouse to modern coastal — and just about everything in between. But no matter how often the aesthetic of our home changes, one thing always stays the same: my love of any space in any Nancy Meyers movie.
More than just a look, Nancy Meyers interiors evoke a feeling I want to create in our home — elevated, comfortable, calm, and collected.

If you feel the same way, in today’s post I’m taking a look at some of the best Nancy Meyers interiors, with inspiration from her movies and tips on how to bring her style to your kitchen, living room, bedroom, and home.
Favorite Nancy Meyers Interiors
So what is it about the Nancy Meyers aesthetic that draws us in? To me, Nancy Meyers style embraces all the little things that make a house feel like home — herbs on the kitchen windowsill, bowls of fruit, fresh flowers, stacks of books everywhere, cozy slipcovered furniture, casually thrown pillows, and an abundance of natural light.
Nancy Meyers movies, like Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, The Holiday, and The Parent Trap, manage to make every room feel like one of the characters, with a personality and charm all its own.
You find yourself wanting to pause each frame of the movie so you can take in every delightful detail.

I first became enchanted with Nancy Meyers interiors in 2003, when I saw the film Something’s Gotta Give.

Even though I loved all the characters in the movie, it was the chic Hamptons home belonging to Erica Barry (played by the late Diane Keaton) that captured my heart.

In fact, I was so inspired by this space, I added French doors and transom windows to our living room.

Nancy Meyers Kitchens
A Nancy Meyers kitchen is always filled with charm and detail: fresh flowers, bowls of fruit, and shelves lined with well-loved cookbooks.
Here’s the timeless Hamptons beach house kitchen that put Nancy Meyers’ style on the map.

Isn’t it amazing that this kitchen is still in style 23 years later? No wonder this space is known as “the most copied kitchen of all time!”
And here is the original Nancy Meyers kitchen, which popped up in my Pinterest feed.
Apparently, she modeled the Something’s Gotta Give kitchen after her own.

Perfect for cooking and entertaining, this timeless kitchen is designed for family gatherings, featuring two oversized kitchen islands — one fitted with a black countertop and the other featuring a white marble countertop with a prep sink.
It’s Complicated
Meyers took her kitchens up a notch with It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep as Jane, a bakery owner who whips up fabulous dinners and desserts for her family and friends.
Needless to say, Jane’s kitchen is a dream. With hanging copper pots, stacks of white porcelain on open shelving, and a floating marble island, this Nancy Meyers kitchen exudes timeless California casual style:

I’m probably the only person on the planet who noticed this, but there’s a dent in Jane’s refrigerator in It’s Complicated –– for some reason, that little slice of reality made me love the movie even more.
The Holiday
Cameron Diaz’s LA house in The Holiday was the epitome of chic California style — and still is — with an abundance of buttery whites, cushy slipcovers, and warm woods.

By the way, interior designer James Radin and set decorator Beth Rubino worked with Nancy Meyers on almost all of her films, bringing these wonderful spaces to life.

The Intern
I love all the cozy details in The Intern kitchen — fresh herbs in clay pots, wooden utensils corralled in an earthenware crock, and a parade of white pitchers on the top shelf.

While the interiors in Nancy Meyers movies are decorated in different styles — Hamptons style, beach house, California casual, English country cottage — there’s a common theme running through each of these homes.
They’re approachable, comfortable, light, and filled with organic textures and layers.

Speaking of layers and textures, here’s a look at Meyers’s living room, which I spotted recently on Pinterest. I love her laid-back, elevated style — and sweet grand-pups!

There’s something so comforting and cozy about a Nancy Meyers movie.
Somehow she manages to make all of the interiors feel both aspirational and accessible — in a perfectly-imperfect sort of way.
What is the Nancy Meyers Aesthetic?
Although this is something I’m still figuring out in my own home, if you want to add the Nancy Meyers aesthetic to your kitchen, bedrooms, entryway, or living room, I’d recommend decorating with timeless pieces, rather than anything too modern or traditional.
Studio McGee – ottoman – pillow – lamp – side table – chair – rug
Something as simple as fresh flowers will bring a touch of the Nancy Meyers aesthetic to your home.
Avoid trendy looks (i.e.; anything you’re seeing over and over again on Instagram). And, when possible, go for real elements, rather than faux.
- Think jute, wool or sisal rugs rather than synthetic fibers.
- Soft cotton or linen slipcovers and bedding.
- Ceramic or terracotta planters instead of plastic or resin.
- Fresh herbs on the windowsill, a vase of fresh flowers, orchids, or lush plants in terracotta pots. (See my post on Orchid Care Tips if you’d like to bring the beauty of orchids to your home.)
- Wood cutting boards.
- Linen aprons, napkins, and dishtowels.
- Display lovely items used for cooking: a salt & pepper cellar, a marble mortar and pestle, olive oils, wood utensils and rolling pins gathered in a crock.
- If you have a collection of white porcelain pitchers or bowls, display it on shelving in the kitchen or dining room.
- Copper pots and pans — preferably displayed on an iron pot hanger.
- Fruits and veg on display on kitchen counters, along with wood cutting boards and marble pastry boards.
- White or off-white curtains in cotton or linen.
- Baskets everywhere.
- Black & white family photos displayed in silver frames.
- Mementos from your travels.
- Lots of books, stacked and displayed on shelves, side tables, console tables and coffee tables–even on the floor.
- Lit candles.
- Display a few cookbooks — either propped up or opened to a favorite recipe on an easel.

January 9, 2022 at 1:32 amI fell hard for the Something’s Gotta Give house too. And had a Nancy / Ina Garten inspired kitchen shortly thereafter. Then along came It’s Complicated. I tried, and failed, to create the vegetable garden. I later learned it wasn’t real so Didn’t feel too bad. All the her movies you mention are fabulous and I could watch them all over and over again. Her daughter’s movie starring Reece Witherspoon was pretty fantastic too. I love how you utilize a basket for cookbooks. Genius! More Nancy Meyer movies, please! xo

As you point out, there are commonalities with every house in her movies that I have loved: Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap, What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday, It’s Complicated, The Intern, Home Again.
