Laundry Room Trends for 2026
In 2026 laundry rooms and home trends in general, you can expect to see a return in popularity of both warm white and warm wood cabinetry, natural stone flooring and backsplash materials, and mixed metal finishes for lighting, faucets, and cabinet hardware.
Dog washing stations, complete with dedicated dog baths or showers are also a popular laundry room feature for 2026.
As you scroll through the beautiful laundry room layouts below, you’ll see an interesting mix of styles, color palettes, and design aesthetics, but they all give you a clear idea of the style of the rest of the house.
Stylish and Functional Laundry Room Ideas for 2026
Creating a beautiful and functional laundry room simply involves working with the space you have, paying attention to a few basics, and adding in your own unique touch.
To get you started, here are a few things to consider:
1. Cabinetry
One of the easiest ways to elevate a laundry room is with cabinetry and storage.
Closed cabinets help keep visual clutter at bay, while open shelving offers a chance to add warmth with woven baskets, glass jars, or pretty containers for detergent and supplies.
Even a simple shelf styled with a plant or framed art can instantly soften the space.
2. Lighting
Lighting also plays a big role in how a laundry room feels.

Under-cabinet lighting, soft overhead fixtures, or even a small lamp can make the room feel more welcoming — especially in windowless spaces.

Light, airy paint colors and reflective surfaces help bounce that natural light around beautifully.
And, if your laundry room is near your kitchen or other adjoining space with cabinetry, it’s a good idea to carry your kitchen cabinet style and color into the space.
3. Add a place to hang clothing
Adding a drying rack to hang wet clothing is a great way to make your laundry room more functional.

A simple closet rod hung above the washer and dryer is an easy way to bring functionality and beauty to your laundry room.
4. Incorporate creative organization and storage solutions
Laundry rooms are often a space to store things like light bulbs, cleaning supplies, and paper goods.
To help keep clutter to a minimum, try to think of everything you want to keep in your laundry room and then decide what kind of storage options you’ll need.
Rolling laundry hampers are a great way to keep laundry sorted and off the floor and countertops.

Open shelving, glass canisters, baskets, and canvas tote bins are other great options to keep clutter to a minimum in the laundry room.
If you have a small laundry room, consider adding a countertop over the washer and dryer or some open shelving to provide additional storage space.
Decorative baskets are not only beautiful, but provide a place to store laundry, extra towels, and cleaning supplies.
Glass canisters, pottery, and stone bowls are perfect for corralling small items in the laundry room.
5. Welcome warmth with a rug
If you have tile or wood flooring in your laundry room, a rug can soften the space, add color and texture, and help pick up the dirt that’s inevitably tracked in.
Runner rugs are a great choice if you have a small or narrow laundry room.
6. Include a sink
A sink is always a wonderful addition to a laundry room, providing a spot to soak clothing, water plants, or wash your hands.
I love the under-sink storage area and unique baskets in this stylish laundry room.

7. Provide a spot to fold clothes
Another thing I love to include in the laundry room is some type of clothing folding area.
A kitchen work table or rolling cart can provide the perfect solution in a small laundry room design.
Whittney Parkinson Design – work table
You can also add a countertop over your washing machine and dryer to provide extra workspace in the laundry room. A small desk or side table works well, too.
8. Add some personality
Finally, don’t underestimate the power of small details in a laundry room entryway.

Patterned tile floors, a pretty backsplash, brass or matte black hardware, and thoughtful organization tools can turn an everyday chore into a moment of calm.
A laundry room doesn’t have to be large or elaborate — it just needs to feel intentional and tailored to your home.
Whether you have a small laundry room or something more grand, the most important thing is to create a functional and beautiful space you love.
I hope you found these laundry room layouts and design ideas helpful and inspiring. Wishing you a wonderful day! xo Jane
