Paint is my favorite way to update a space. Even now, after completing so many DIY painting projects, it amazes me how a fresh coat of paint can instantly change the look and feeling of a room!
The nicest thing about painting the walls — besides the immediate gratification — is that if you don’t like the finished look, you can easily paint over it and either go back to the original color or try something different–which is especially nice if you’re renting an apartment or home.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you might remember that we painted all the walls and ceilings in our home a couple of years ago. Since then, I’ve wanted to write a post sharing all the paint colors we used in our home–and today I’m finally getting around to it!
Below, you’ll find the paint colors and finishes we used on every surface in our home, including our kitchen cabinets and island, our guest bathroom vanity, the exterior of our home, and all the walls, ceilings and trim in our house.
“I believe in optimism and plenty of white paint!” — Elsie De Wolfe
Since all the walls on the main floor of our home are painted with my favorite two shades of white, Benjamin Moore White Dove and Benjamin Moore Simply White, I’ll begin with a quick comparison of these popular white paint colors.
What is the difference between Simply White and White Dove?
Although these two paint colors are very similar, Simply White is a bit warmer than White Dove. Because of its gray undertones, White Dove has a very slight beige cast when placed next to Simply White.

Is White Dove a warm white or a cool white?
While Benjamin Moore White Dove is considered a warm white paint, it’s warm without being overly yellow looking. With its gray undertones, White Dove is more of a neutral off-white, suitable for kitchen cabinets (see White Dove in our kitchen, below) as well as on walls, trim work, and ceilings.
White Dove is my favorite white paint. It’s warm without being too yellow, making any space look lighter and brighter without feeling cold and sterile.
Is Simply White a warm white or a cool white?
Benjamin Moore Simply White has pale yellow undertones and is considered a warm white. It works well for walls, trim, and baseboards in any room where you’d like a touch of warmth.
Simply White looks different at various times of the day and year, but it always remains a soft warm white. I happen to love the warmth Simply White adds to a space–especially in areas where natural light is limited, like our guest bathroom, hallway, and living room. However, if you’re looking for a cool white or a pure white without any warm undertones, Simply White might not be right for you.
I’ll be honest, I can’t detect a huge difference between Simply White and White Dove. In our home, they look very, very similar. Both are soft white paint colors with warm undertones that reflect light beautifully.
All the Paint Colors in Our Home
Please know the following photos have been edited, so the actual white wall colors are going to be warmer than they appear here. Take a look at my post, How to Choose the Perfect White Paint Colors for Your Home, for tips on selecting the right white paint colors for your spaces.
White Paint Colors in our Living Room
Due to the covered patio area outside those windows, our living room is shaded most of the day. We do get a burst of sunlight late in the day when the sun is low in the sky.
Because of the lack of natural light in this space, our living room walls are painted with Simply White by Benjamin Moore in satin finish. I used Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint from The Home Depot.
The ceilings are painted with Behr flat white ceiling paint, also from The Home Depot.
Entryway Paint Colors
Our entryway is also painted with Simply White by Benjamin Moore in Satin finish. Again, we used Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint from The Home Depot. This space receives a touch of morning sunlight.
The blue cabinet color is Indigo Streamer spray paint by Valspar at Lowe’s. I also added new brass pulls (from Hobby Lobby).
Dining Room Color
Our dining room, which receives abundant morning sunshine, is also painted with Simply White by Benjamin Moore in a Satin finish, using Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint from Home Depot.
See this post for my step-by-step tutorial on How to Install Picture Frame Wall Molding.
Kitchen / Dining Nook / Hearth Room Paint Colors
With windows on both the south and west, this open-concept space receives natural sunlight almost all day long.
The kitchen cabinet paint color is White Dove by Benjamin Moore in Satin finish – we used Benjamin Moore Advance paint on our white cabinets.
Walls: White Dove by Benjamin Moore in Eggshell finish. We used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s.
The blue island color is “Distance” by Sherwin Williams in Satin finish. We used Sherwin Williams Pro Classic paint on the island.

Our hearth room walls are also painted with White Dove by Benjamin Moore in an Eggshell finish. We used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s.
And our breakfast nook walls are also painted with White Dove by Benjamin Moore in an Eggshell finish. Again, we used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s.
Primary Bedroom Paint Color
Our primary, or master bedroom paint color is White Dove by Benjamin Moore in Eggshell finish (we used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s). This room is on the west side of our home and receives abundant afternoon sunlight.
When we reached this room, we started painting the ceilings with White Dove as well, rather than using flat white ceiling paint.
Guest Bedroom
Our guest bedroom walls and ceiling are painted with White Dove by Benjamin Moore in Eggshell finish (we used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s). This room is on the east side of our home and receives morning sunlight.
Home Office Paint
In my home office, we used White Dove by Benjamin Moore in an Eggshell finish on the walls and ceiling.
We used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s.
Due to a big window and eastern exposure, this room receives abundant morning sunlight.

Guest Bathroom Paint Colors
The guest bathroom paint is Simply White by Benjamin Moore in a Satin finish. We used Behr Premium Plus Ultra paint from The Home Depot. This room receives zero natural light.
I painted the vanity cabinet with “Van Deusen Blue” by Benjamin Moore in a Satin finish with Benjamin Moore Advance, which is a great choice for cabinets. See my post sharing how to paint bathroom vanity cabinets.

Laundry Room Paint Colors
The walls in our laundry room are painted with White Dove by Benjamin Moore in an Eggshell finish, with Valspar Reserve from Lowe’s.
And our laundry room cabinets are painted with Bracing Blue by Sherwin Williams in Satin finish with Sherwin Williams Pro Classic paint.
Ceiling Paint
We used Behr flat white ceiling paint from the Home Depot in on the ceilings in our living room, dining room, kitchen, hearth room, guest bathroom, and entryway.
At some point, we realized it would be much easier to paint the walls and ceiling with the same paint color, so the ceilings in our master bedroom, home office, guest bedroom, and master bathroom are Benjamin Moore White Dove.
All Interior Trim, Door, and Baseboard Paint
All interior trim, baseboards, and doors in our home are painted with Fossil Dust by Kwal (now owned by Sherwin Williams) in a Semi-Gloss finish. We used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s.
Home Exterior Paint Colors
Our home exterior paint color is Secret Moss by Valspar, and the darker accent color on the eaves (not shown) is Murky Sage, also by Valspar. The exterior white trim is Icefield by Kwal – we used Valspar Reserve paint from Lowe’s.
Whew! That’s all for today, but I hope this post will serve as an easy reference to all the paint colors we used in our home (and perhaps help me remember what we used, too)! Let me know in the comments section if you have any questions!
Have a wonderful day, xo Jane
