When it comes to creating a relaxing bedroom, the colors you choose are key. With that in mind, in today’s post I’m exploring the best colors for a peaceful and calming bedroom, including 2024 paint color trends, decorating ideas, and tips for choosing a bedroom color palette that promotes relaxation and restful sleep.
Whether you’re thinking of making a few tweaks to your current bedroom color scheme or are starting over from scratch, I hope you’ll find some helpful ideas and inspiration in this post.
2024 Color Trends for the Bedroom
While the color trends for 2024 are varied, they all have the potential to bring a sense of beauty, comfort, and style to your bedroom in the coming year.
Colors can be divided into warm and cool tones, and each hue can affect your mood and level of relaxation, so it’s always helpful to think about your color palette before decorating or painting your bedroom.
A warm aesthetic
Several themes are appearing for home paint colors in 2024, with “warmth” being one of the keywords, and you’ll see the concept of a warm aesthetic woven throughout most of the interior design trends on my blog.
Based on calming neutrals, a warm color palette is perfect for the bedroom as it brings a comforting, grounded feeling to a space.
Warm neutral tones, like beige, blush, tan, and cream typically create feelings of coziness, comfort, and optimism — perfect for the bedroom.
When choosing a color palette for a bedroom, it’s also important to consider the shade, depth, and tone of each color.
Lighter, softer shades are a great choice for a bedroom, as they help create a soothing atmosphere.
Calming cool tones
On the other side of the color spectrum, cool shades like blue, green, and lavender are also trending. Since cool colors are naturally calming and soothing, they’re a great option for a relaxing bedroom aesthetic.
Cool colors help create a serene and peaceful environment, perfect for promoting restful sleep.
For a modern and cohesive look, consider sticking with one color family (e.g., various shades of blue). Or, choose analogous colors from the color wheel, such as blue, green, and blue-green.

You might want to avoid mixing complementary colors such as orange and blue in the bedroom, as these color combinations are often too energizing for restful sleep.
Relaxing Color Combinations for the Bedroom
The following images are filled with beautiful ideas and inspiration for creating a relaxing bedroom using different color combinations.
1. Neutral and earth-toned bedrooms
As I mentioned above, warm neutral tones like beige, camel, and tan are extremely popular right now — no matter what design style you prefer.

2. Blue and white bedrooms
If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I love the color blue, so I couldn’t have been happier when I saw that both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams chose shades of blue as their 2024 Colors of the Year.
The classic combination of blue and white creates a crisp and calming atmosphere, which is perfect in this calming coastal-inspired bedroom:

Contemporary artwork is another great way to add a touch of modern coastal decor to the bedroom, as shown in this beautiful beach theme space.

8. Bedroom accent colors, textures, and patterns
While the overall bedroom color palette is key for a relaxing space, adding accent colors, textures, and patterns can help create interest and depth in your space.
When choosing accent colors, opt for muted or neutral shades that complement your main color palette.

Subtle patterns, like stripes or grid patterns, can also add interest without overwhelming your space.
