With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I’d pop in and share a few easy Christmas decorating ideas for a stress-free holiday season! As you’ll see, this is a pretty short tour!
First, my husband and are in the home stretch of our kitchen renovation–and with cabinet painters, delivery people, and plumbers in the house on a near-daily basis, it made it a little tricky for me to decorate or take photos! Second, a dear friend and family member passed away earlier this month, reminding me of how important it is to slow down and appreciate each moment. So, while I didn’t do as much decorating as usual this year, I know our Christmas will still be filled with the most beautiful part of the holidays: the love and joy of family and friends!
How to Decorate for Christmas with Blue and White
As holiday guests enter our home, they’re greeted by this blue cabinet, topped with tiny houses and trees, and a view of our Christmas tree beyond. As you can see, I stuck with my favorite color palette of mostly blue, white, silver and gold this season. I wanted to try out a bit of a Scandinavian vibe this year, and although I’m not sure I accomplished that, I do love the spots where I managed to create a lighter, simpler look.
To the left of the entryway is our dining room. Since I’m hosting Christmas dinner this year, I’ve been experimenting with a few different table settings and centerpiece ideas before the big day arrives! I usually bring out a bunch of different plates, chargers and napkins and try out several combinations until I’m happy with it.
These pretty gingham napkins were the inspiration for this year’s blue, white and gold-themed tablescape. I simply added a few sprigs of mistletoe down the center of the table for a simple, clean look. Since the mistletoe is faux, I won’t have to worry about coming up with a new centerpiece before the big day!
For the first time ever, I added a little Christmas tree to our dining room, and I’m loving the soft pink glow it adds to this space! It’s also my first flocked tree–and while I love the frosty look, it’s a little bit messy (as you can see on the floor)!
Although the tree is pretty small, it’s just the perfect height for our grands to enjoy, so I decorated it with little animals and colorful ornaments they can play with.
In the living room, we moved our Christmas tree to a different corner this year, and I’m really loving its new location because I can see it as soon as I walk in the front door! I kept the decorations on the tree super simple, with silver, clear and white ornaments. The wreaths on the French doors are probably my favorite addition to this space. I just love the look of wreaths hanging in doors and windows!
Since our hearth room is connected to the kitchen, it feels pretty cozy in here all year round, so all it needed was a touch of fur and some boxwood wreaths to add a touch of holiday cheer!
I started out the season with a fresh pine garland on the mantel, but it dried out so quickly and made such a mess that I recently replaced it with this faux eucalyptus garland. With the addition of some gold candlesticks and a pair of stockings, we’re ready for Santa!
The festive feeling of the holidays is carried into our master bedroom via an evergreen garland and some twinkly lights perched on top of the headboard as well as a few simple holiday touches on the night stands.
I love the soft glow the lights add to the room in the aflateternoon and evening! It makes our bedroom feel like a cozy winter retreat. And my new Turkish runner gives my feet a warm place to land on cold winter mornings!
For the first time, our guest bedroom also got a dose of Christmas cheer this year! With the addition of a couple of cozy throws and a festive plaid pillow, we’re ready for holiday visitors!
Speaking of holiday visitors, this year our guests will be greeted by this festive wreath on our front door. With those pretty white berries and golden bells, I know I’ll love using this wreath for years to come!
