2025 is shaping up to be the year of fresh, timeless kitchen design — and it all begins with the perfect shade of paint! The right paint color can bring a sense of light and balance to the kitchen, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. With that in mind, in today’s post, I’m sharing kitchen cabinet paint color trends for 2025, including popular kitchen colors, the best white paints for kitchen cabinets, tips on choosing the right paint finish, and ideas to help you create a look that won’t go out of style anytime soon.
Painting your kitchen cabinets is a great way to update your kitchen without having to undergo a full renovation, as we found out when we had our kitchen cabinets professionally painted a few years ago.
Before choosing the paint colors for our kitchen cabinets and walls, I spent hours gathering information, ideas, and inspiration on this topic, and today I’m sharing everything I learned.
Whether you’re currently designing a new kitchen, planning a kitchen remodel, selecting paint colors, or looking for guidance on the best paint finish for your kitchen cabinets, I hope you’ll find some great ideas and inspiration in this post.
How to Choose the Best Paint Color and Finish for Your Kitchen Cabinets
Choosing the right paint color for your kitchen cabinets can have a huge impact on the overall look, feeling, and design style of your kitchen.
In addition to deciding among the popular paint colors mentioned below, there are other factors to consider when painting your kitchen cabinets.
For example, it’s important to choose the right finish and use a high-quality paint that can withstand the wear and tear most kitchens receive on a daily basis.

When choosing a kitchen cabinet paint color, I suggest considering the color scheme you’ve used throughout the rest of your home (especially in adjoining spaces) and the overall ambiance you want to create in your space.
Do you want your kitchen to feel cozy, fresh, timeless, welcoming, airy, minimal, organic, comfortable, calming, elevated — or a mix of all the feelings?
In addition, when choosing your kitchen cabinet paint color, it’s a good idea to consider your preferred design style, as well as the architectural style of your home, so you can choose a color that will complement and enhance that style.
My favorite design style is modern coastal, but you might prefer transitional, modern farmhouse, French country, mid-century modern, contemporary, organic modern, traditional, or Scandinavian style.
This beautiful kitchen design, with its muted gray and white color scheme, is a great example of timeless European farmhouse style:

Best White Paints for Kitchen Cabinets
As I mentioned above, white kitchens are a timeless choice that will never go out of style.
If you’re looking for the best white paint color for your kitchen cabinets, here are some popular white paint options:
1. Simply White by Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore Simply White is considered a warm white with a cozy and welcoming feel.
Because Simply White is a clean, crisp white with just a hint of warmth, we chose it as the wall color in our living room, dining room, and entryway.
2. White Dove by Benjamin Moore
Considered a soft warm white, White Dove is a clean, classic shade of white with a neutral undertone, making it a great kitchen cabinet color option.
White Dove was one of Benjamin Moore’s Colors of the Year last year.

In addition, White Dove is the color we chose to paint our kitchen cabinets. Since our kitchen walls are also painted with White Dove, it creates a seamless, cohesive look.
Our cabinet painter used Benjamin Moore Advance paint in satin finish.

3. Blank Canvas by Behr
Last year, Behr’s Color of the Year was Blank Canvas (DC-003), a warm, cozy shade of white, making it an option that would work well with just about any other color, including warm neutral beiges and tans.
Blank Canvas is a great choice for any room in the house, but I think it’s especially well-suited for kitchen cabinets.
4. Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore
Chantilly Lace is a pure white which works well in both modern and timeless kitchens.
One of our daughters used this shade of white paint throughout her home, and it looks absolutely beautiful.
Chantilly Lace is considered a neutral white – not too cold and not too warm — just right.
Of course, it’s important to consider the amount of light your kitchen receives and the direction it faces, as south- and west-facing rooms generally bring out the warm tones in white painted surfaces.
5. Decorator’s White by Benjamin Moore
Decorator’s White is a bright white that is known to work well in both traditional and modern kitchens.
I don’t have personal experience with Decorator’s White, but I know it’s a popular choice among interior designers, so it’s a shade you might want to consider, as well.
2025 Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color Trends
1. White
White kitchens will never go out of style — and they remain a timeless, classic choice for 2025 and beyond.
This light-filled kitchen incorporates a mix of brass and polished nickel metal finishes, both of which work beautifully with white kitchen cabinets. (We chose the same pendant lighting and counter stools for our kitchen!)

2. Blue
After white, blue is the second most popular choice in kitchen cabinet paint colors.
This beautiful kitchen design features warm wood elements and natural elements mixed with blue-gray kitchen cabinets, creating a feeling of balance and depth.

Blue kitchen cabinets bring a calming yet uplifting feeling to the kitchen, making them the perfect choice for those of us who love to cook and spend a lot of time in the kitchen.
Blue pairs beautifully with white, making it a great color choice for a kitchen island.

3. Gray
Neutral paint colors like gray are also a great option for cabinets, as they create a sense of sophistication and elegance in the kitchen.
Warm shades of gray, including gray colors with a green undertone, are trending in 2025 kitchen cabinet colors, while cool grays are on their way out.

Gray kitchen cabinets and islands, in both light and dark shades, offer a timeless, classic look.

Gray kitchen cabinets pair well with many different countertop and backsplash materials, making them a great choice for most design styles, including modern farmhouse.
As you can see in these inspiring spaces, grey also pairs beautifully with white, creating a classic, timeless look in the kitchen
Other popular gray paint colors choices for kitchen cabinets are:
- Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore, a warm gray that works well with a variety of design styles.
- Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore, a light gray color that helps make the kitchen feel more open and spacious.
- Agreeable Gray from Sherwin Williams is their most popular paint color. This neutral gray has beige undertones, making it perfect for kitchen cabinets and all interior and exterior projects.
I don’t have any personal experience with these paint colors, but I know they’re very popular with interior designers and homeowners, so if you’re considering gray kitchen cabinets, you might want to pick up a test swatch or small sample jar of these shades and try them out.
4. Green
Green kitchen cabinets are extremely popular right now, as they bring a natural, organic feeling to the kitchen.
While many different shades of green are perfect for a kitchen, sage green seems to be the most popular choice at the moment.
Here’s a beautiful dark green kitchen in Pewter Green by Sherwin Williams:
And here’s another gorgeous kitchen in Sherwin Williams Pewter Green.
Green cabinets look great when paired with darker colors and natural materials such as wood islands, natural stone countertops, and woven elements via pendant lighting and counter stools.
I don’t know whether the kitchen cabinet color in this beautiful butler’s pantry is green or blue, but whatever it is, it’s stunning. Nature-inspired hues, like muted greens and blues are popular in 2025 kitchen cabinet trends.
5. Black
Black kitchen cabinets are a bold choice, adding a modern yet timeless look to the kitchen.

When paired with lighter countertops and backsplashes, black kitchen cabinets create a beautiful contrast.
I especially love the look of black paint on a kitchen island.

Sherwin Williams Iron Ore is one of the most popular black paint colors with interior designers — not just for kitchen cabinets, but for many applications throughout the home.

What is the best paint finish for kitchen cabinets?
When it comes to painting kitchen cabinets, the finish you choose is just as important as the color.
In the past, semi-gloss was considered the best paint finish for kitchen cabinets, and it’s still a great choice.
Jean Stoffer Interior Design – Stoffer Interior Photography
However, in recent years, satin finishes have become more popular as many homeowners prefer a more matte finish on cabinets and walls.
Both satin and semi-gloss finishes are durable, easy to clean, and withstand frequent use. Our kitchen cabinets and island are painted in a satin finish.
If you’re going for a dramatic look, you choose a high-gloss finish for your kitchen cabinets.
High-gloss cabinets have a reflective quality that tends to lighten and brighten a space and are especially beautiful when used in a kitchen pantry or butler’s pantry.

How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets?
Painting your kitchen cabinets is a cost-effective way to update your kitchen and can be significantly cheaper than replacing them altogether.
The cost to paint kitchen cabinets will vary depending on several factors, such as your location, the size of your kitchen, the quality of the paint and materials used, and whether you hire a professional or do it yourself.
On average, the cost to paint kitchen cabinets ranges anywhere from $1,200 to $10,000.
We have a small kitchen, and even so, the cost of painting our kitchen cabinets professionally was $4100 (which included painting our laundry room cabinets, as well).
If you’d like to see our kitchen cabinet paint transformation, with before and after photos, I shared all the details in this post: Our Kitchen Remodel, Before and After.
While painting your kitchen cabinets is a great way to update and increase the value of your home, it’s important to remember that painting cabinets yourself can be a time-consuming and challenging job, especially if you have no prior experience.
That’s why I highly recommend hiring a professional kitchen cabinet painter to ensure the best possible results.
The spray painted finish on our kitchen cabinets is flawless and professional-looking and has held up beautifully over the past four years, but I’m not sure I could say the same if we’d done it ourselves!
