Color of the Year 2024 + Top Home Color Trends

One of my favorite things to do is talk about color trends, so when fall rolls around and the top paint companies, like Benjamin Moore, Valspar, Sherwin Williams, and Behr, start announcing their Colors of the Year, I get pretty excited.  

Not only are the Color of the Year forecasts a helpful guide when selecting paint shades, they give me a good idea as to what interior design trends we’ll see developing in the new year. 

As you’ll see, the trending colors for 2024 are a varied bunch, but all are designed to bring a sense of warmth, comfort, and elegance to your home.  And, with a couple of exceptions, most of these shades would work well in just about any room in the house — and with just about any decorating style. 

Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2024

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year for 2024 is Blue Nova, a mix of violet and blue described as “an alluring mid-tone … with endlessly classic appeal.”

If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I’m crazy about the color blue, so I couldn’t be happier about Benjamin Moore’s color of the year announcement.

This sumptuous hue is part of Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends 2024, a color palette which “takes inspiration from the hues experienced through travels ….”

Besides Blue Nova, the Benjamin Moore 2024 Color Palette of the Year includes White Dove (my favorite shade of white paint, which I’ve used throughout our home — including on our kitchen cabinets), Pristine, Topaz, Teacup Rose, Honey Bee, Regent Green, Antique Pewter, Polar Sky, and Hazy Lilac.

Any of the shades in the Benjamin Moore 2024 Color Trends palette would pair beautifully with neutral hues. 

And my favorite Benjamin Moore white paint, White Dove (OC-17), which we used on our kitchen cabinets and in several rooms in our home, would be perfectly suited as a trim or accent color with Blue Nova or any of the other colors in the 2024 color palette.

Behr Color of the Year 2024

Behr’s Color of the Year for 2024 is Cracked Pepper (PPU18-01), a soft, versatile shade of black.

I love that Behr chose a shade of black as their color of the year, because it’s a great option for just about any room in the home — although I think it would be especially beautiful on kitchen cabinets or as an accent wall color or a dramatic room color in a bedroom or powder bathroom.

This shade of black would work well with just about any other color, including warm neutral tones like beige, camel, and tan, all of which are extremely popular right now.  See my post on the 2024 Home Decor Trends for more on using neutral tones in your home.

Black paint is always sophisticated and everyone can incorporate it in their home.  And, in my opinion, this particular shade is a classic. 

In addition to Cracked Pepper, the Behr 2024 Color Trends Palette includes a beautiful collection of neutrals and accent colors, including Whipped Cream, Weathered White, Even Better Beige, Malted, Tranquil Gray, Chic Taupe, Amber Brew, Riviera Beach, Orange Flambe, Offshore Mist, Provence Blue, Rumors, Laguna Blue, and Mountain Olive.

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2024

The Sherwin Williams 2024 Color of the Year is a soft denim blue called Upward.

With its calm gray undertones, I happen to love this light neutral shade of blue. 

Sherwin Williams Upward would pair beautifully with both warm and cool hues, making it perfect as a backdrop or accent color for the living room, as well as a lovely kitchen cabinet color or bathroom cabinet color.

The versatility and approachability of Sherwin Williams 2024 Color of the Year, Upward, makes it adaptable to just about any space in the home. 

Valspar Color of the Year

The Valspar Color of the Year for 2024 is Renew Blue, a green-influenced blue described as a “trend-worthy shade” that “creates a sense of peace wherever you place it.”

Renew Blue is a livable shade that would work well in just about any space in the home, including as a kitchen cabinet color — perfect for a modern coastal style home.

Valspar Renew is a balanced shade, merging cool tones of blue with undertones of green.  Here, it’s beautifully paired with white as an exterior accent color:

For coordinating colors to pair with Renew Blue, Valspar recommends mid-toned neutrals like Valspar Perfect Backdrop (8005-8B) and Valspar Dusk in the Valley (8004-3B).

Pantone Color of the Year 2024

Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year is Peach Fuzz, a “velvety gentle peach tone … radiant with warmth and modern elegance.”

Using Color in Your Home

Mixing and matching colors in your home doesn’t have to be daunting.  Try styling deep, saturated hues with light neutrals as a contrast.

You can soften the bold look of color by introducing curved forms and luxurious textures to create a look that’s both inspiring and calming.
