Coastaluxe: the Perfect Blend of Modern Coastal and Quiet Luxury Interior Design

Over the years, I’ve embraced nearly every interior design style, but I always return to some version of coastal decor.  I simply can’t resist the fresh, breezy quality of coastal design — especially when blended with the elevated approach of quiet luxury — for a perfect marriage of styles I like to call “coastaluxe.”  More than just an aesthetic, coastaluxe interiors evoke a feeling I want to create in our home — elevated, comfortable, calm, and collected.

If you feel the same way, in today’s post I’m taking a look at this new version of coastal style, including beautiful interiors that exude the coastaluxe look and ideas on how to decorate your kitchen, living room, and home with this elevated approach to coastal decor.

Imagine a home that feels like a refined beachfront retreat, where the clean lines of modern coastal design meet the understated sophistication of quiet luxury.

If you’re drawn to the elegance of quiet luxury but can’t resist the breezy charm of coastal decor, then coastaluxe just might be the style you’ve been waiting for.

Coastaluxe Interior Design: Modern Coastal Meets Quiet Luxury

What is Coastaluxe Style?

Coastaluxe is a word I came up with to describe the blending of relaxed coastal style with a touch of refined, modern elegance.

Think light and airy spaces filled with soft, neutral tones, natural textures, and subtle touches of luxury.

Coastaluxe spaces feel both timeless and on-trend, blending organic elements like linen, rattan, and reclaimed wood with luxurious touches like marble accents, sleek hardware, and carefully curated decor.

At its core, coastaluxe interior design is a quieter, more refined version of the coastal aesthetic.

Although this look is something I’m still figuring out in my own home, if you want to add a touch of coastaluxe style to your kitchen, bedrooms, dining room, or living room, I’d recommend leaning toward classic, timeless pieces.

Here are a few additional tips for bringing the coastaluxe look to your home:

  • Stick with a soothing neutral color palette
  • Incorporate jute, wool, or sisal rugs
  • Choose soft cotton or fine linen upholstery, slipcovers, and bedding
  • Opt for curtains and window coverings in cotton or linen
  • Incorporate plenty of candlelight and warm ambient lighting
  • Display favorite books on shelves, side tables, console tables, and coffee tables
  • Use linen tablecloths and napkins for dining

To create a coastaluxe look in the kitchen, I like to display items used for cooking, such as wood cutting boards and marble pastry boards, a salt and pepper cellar, a marble mortar and pestle, infused olive oils, and wood utensils and rolling pins gathered in a stone vessel.

Choose streamlined hardware in matte finishes – aged brass is especially beautiful in a coastaluxe kitchen.  See my post, A Simple Guide to Mixing Metals in the Kitchen, for more tips on choosing metal finishes for your kitchen.

Opt for cabinetry in soft whites, light wood, or muted blues, complemented by natural stone countertops, marble or zellige tile backsplashes, and glass cabinet inserts for that custom, high-end feel.  See my post, Blue Kitchen Cabinet Ideas and Trends for 2025, for blue kitchen cabinet inspiration.

How to Bring the Coastaluxe Look to Your Home

While coastaluxe home decor might be interpreted in many different ways, from Hamptons to beach house, island, Nancy Meyers, boho, and California casual styles — there’s a common theme running throughout.

They’re approachable, comfortable, light, and filled with interesting textures and layers.

1. Focus on neutral tones

When choosing a color palette, incorporating the colors of the sand and sea, such as white and off-white, sandy beige, subtle shades of blue, and other neutral tones, creates a cohesive and elevated coastaluxe aesthetic.

In coastaluxe interiors, you’ll see plenty of upholstered and slipcovered furniture in soft whites, warm beiges, and touches of gray, which form the perfect backdrop for coastaluxe spaces.

2. Embrace texture

Linen, wood, stone, and rattan are essential for adding warmth and depth to a coastaluxe room.

Natural and organic elements add texture to a space and speak to a more thoughtful and intentional way of living and decorating.

3. Choose minimalist decor

Less is more in a coastaluxe space, so I suggest choosing meaningful, high-quality decor pieces for a sophisticated, timeless feeling.
