While I love just about every style and color of kitchen, I have to admit I have a thing for blue kitchen cabinets. A touch of blue adds a timeless, yet fresh and modern look to every space, making it a wonderful choice for kitchens.
When we renovated our kitchen a couple of years ago, I knew I wanted to incorporate blue in some way, so I spent hours gathering images of blue kitchens, including all-blue kitchen cabinets, a mix of blue and white cabinets, blue and wood cabinets, blue kitchen islands, navy kitchens, coastal kitchens, and more, all which I’m sharing with you in this post.
By the way, after considering all the options, we decided to go with a blue island (in Sherwin Williams Distance) and white cabinets (in Benjamin Moore White Dove) for our kitchen.
If you’re planning a kitchen remodel in 2025 or are making choices regarding finishes and are considering adding blue cabinets or a blue kitchen island, I hope you’ll find all sorts of ideas and inspiration in this post.

First, are blue kitchen cabinets still in style?
Since blue is a timeless hue, blue kitchen cabinets will never go out of style.
In fact, after white, blue is the most popular kitchen cabinet color, making it the perfect way to bring a touch of color to your kitchen.
When Pantone named Classic Blue their Color of the Year a few years ago, blue kitchens became more popular than ever, as evidenced by the beautiful spaces below.
See my posts on 2025 Kitchen Cabinet Paint Color Trends and Top Home Color Trends for 2025, for more kitchen cabinet color ideas and trends.
2025 kitchen trends
Looking at 2025 kitchen trends, expect to see a surge in popularity of both zellige tile and marble backsplashes, mixed metal finishes, custom hood designs, and unique ceiling treatments (think beams, insets, coffers, panels, and bead board).
In 2025, in addition to a revival of French country and Mediterranean style kitchens, we’re seeing plenty of modern coastal and modern farmhouse spaces.
Both traditional and contemporary style kitchens will incorporate smart appliances, including ranges with sous-vide functions, Alexa-enabled refrigerators, and smart screens to pull up your favorite recipe or chat with family while you cook.
While open shelving is still in style, kitchen designers are favoring the simple, uncluttered look of one long shelf — perhaps in marble — rather than stacked wood shelves.
Faucets, lighting, and hardware in mixed metal finishes are the new jewelry of the kitchen.

What shade of blue is best for kitchen cabinets?
If you love dark blue cabinets, Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore is a timeless shade loved by interior designers for its perfect mix of warm and cool undertones.
However, lighter shades of blue are becoming increasingly popular, too, as you’ll see as you scroll through the spaces below.
Before painting your kitchen cabinets, I suggest testing out several shades of blue in your kitchen (using painted pieces of poster board or cardboard taped to the cabinets) to see how they look throughout the day, as some blue paints can take on either purple or teal tones in different lights.

Dark Blue and Navy Kitchen Cabinet Ideas
Navy kitchen cabinets, along with dark royal blue cabinets, are a classic look that will never go out of style.
Since navy pairs so beautifully with brass, chrome and silver, it allows you to mix metals with confidence. Here’s my post on mixing metal finishes in the kitchen.
Navy is actually considered a neutral; since navy blue works well with every other color and metal finish, it gives you a lot of latitude when it comes to choosing the decor and finishes for your kitchen.

January 20, 2020 at 10:16 amSuch a gorgeous home! It looks like it might be Hale Navy (Benjamin Moore), but as you said it’s difficult to tell the true color in a photo once it’s been edited. You might try heading over to Jean Stoffer’s Instagram page and look for photos of this kitchen, then check the comments to see if she shares the paint color. xo Jane
