Modern coastal or beach house style is the perfect way to add an interesting and contemporary look to the dining room. And in today’s post, I’m sharing some simple tips on how to add a touch of coastal or beach house style to your dining room — or any dining area in your home, with images of beautiful coastal dining rooms, modern coastal decorating ideas, and more.
I’ve spent the past few years gathering the latest inspiration, tips, and ideas on modern coastal decor, dining rooms, breakfast nooks, kitchen eating areas, and more — and today I’m sharing everything I learned about adding contemporary coastal style to a dining space.
Whether you’re designing a brand new dining area, remodeling your home, or making choices regarding decorating and updating your current space, I hope you’ll find this post helpful and informative!
First, what does a coastal dining room look like?
A coastal style dining space is inherently light, open, and airy. Inspired by the colors of nature, modern coastal dining rooms might include natural fiber rugs, woven light fixtures, a light wood dining table and/or console, and a color scheme inspired by the sea and sky.
Although there are many different approaches to coastal style, my favorite is modern coastal design, which is light, minimal, and fresh, incorporating a mix of relaxed beach house and elevated Hamptons style.
Modern coastal style is a versatile, timeless aesthetic that continues to evolve and grow in popularity with each passing year, making it one of the most popular interior design styles for 2025.
In gathering coastal dining room inspiration, you might want to take a look at sites like Serena and Lily, Dear Keaton, or Pottery Barn, all of which beautifully convey what modern coastal style will look like in 2025 and beyond.

2025 Coastal Dining Room Trends
2025 coastal dining room trends are all about natural materials, including wood furniture and woven lighting, so I also recommend adding in a few natural elements, as well as interesting textures via rugs, decor, wall art, window coverings, and light fixtures.
Some of the most popular dining room trends for 2025 include the popularity of warm woods, neutral color palettes, luxurious details, statement lighting, and curved silhouettes.
Several themes are appearing for dining room decor and design in 2025, including organic modern spaces and quiet luxury style spaces, both of which work beautifully with modern coastal style.

Essential Elements of a Coastal Dining Room
Whether you prefer a relaxed beach house aesthetic, California casual, or timeless East Coast style, here are a few elements you’ll typically find in a coastal dining space:
1. Coastal style lighting
Pendant lights and sconces are two easy ways to create a focal point and add coastal style to the dining room.
Most coastal dining room designs incorporate some type of pendant lighting or chandelier over the dining table.
Fabric or woven shades as well as beaded chandeliers and metal finishes — often in brass or a mix of glass and brass — are popular as we head into 2025.

2. Natural materials
Natural materials are a key element in modern coastal dining areas.

Things like wood floors and ceiling beams, woven pendant lights, and natural fiber rugs create a warm and inviting atmosphere in a coastal or beach house style dining nook.
3. A coastal color palette
When it comes to choosing a color palette for a modern coastal dining room, incorporating the colors of the sea, sand, and sky (such as white and off-white, all shades of blue, muted green, coral, beige, and other neutral tones) helps create a cohesive and beautiful look in a space.
4. Wood furniture
Natural wood furniture is a popular choice for modern coastal dining spaces for 2025, especially when paired with white walls, which naturally create a light and airy atmosphere.

5. Coastal inspired artwork
Whether you’re designing a coastal, beach house, or Hamptons style dining room, the wall art and mirrors you select should complement the overall look of the space.
6. Coastal dining room decor
Adding beach-inspired decor to your dining room will create a fresh look in your space.
However, since modern beach house style is generally carefree and relaxed, it’s easy to go overboard (believe me, I’ve gone there!).

For an elevated coastal look, avoid overdoing things like signs, rope accents, anchors, nautical themes, and sea creature motifs.

7. An open, airy feeling
Creating open spaces with abundant natural light is an important element in modern coastal interior design.
If you’re planning a home remodel or renovation, you might consider removing unnecessary walls to create a more open and airy feeling in your dining area.

High ceilings also create an open and airy atmosphere in a modern coastal dining room.
In addition, architectural details such as wall molding, shiplap, and coffered ceilings brings interest, depth, and character to a coastal themed dining room.
