If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I love changing the look of our living room pretty often! I’ve found that moving the furniture around or adding a new pillow, rug, artwork, or light fixture can change the way we use and live in our space. Since updating the living room is such a great way to add a fresh look and feeling to your home, in today’s post, I’m sharing some beautiful living room decorating ideas.
You’ll find ideas and inspiration for large and small living rooms, TV wall ideas, open-concept spaces, family rooms, great rooms, hearth rooms, modern looks, and much more.
Living Room Trends for 2025
Several themes are already appearing for living rooms and interiors in general in 2025, including luxurious looks, sumptuous fabrics, and understated elegance — no matter what decorating style you prefer.
Some of the top living room trends for 2025 include:
- a rich color palette,
- curved and rounded furniture silhouettes
- natural stone surfaces,
- luxurious details, and
- an updated version of modern farmhouse style
A rich color palette
Tying in with many of the other living room trends you’ll see this year, a rich, warm color palette will continue to be popular in 2025.
A warm aesthetic brings a comforting, grounded feeling to the living room that will resonate with our lifestyles in 2025 and beyond.
In addition, deep burgundy (along with sister shades dark wine and oxblood), navy blue, saturated green, chocolate brown, and other warm earth tones will be popular in 2025.
For an on-trend look, consider incorporating one or more of these colors in the living room via feature walls, pillows, throws, rugs, and even large pieces of furniture like sofas and arm chairs.
Curvy and textured furniture
In living room furniture trends for 2025, expect to continue to see plenty of curvy shapes and textured fabrics, as well as the use of rattan and cane, warm woods, and stone finishes.
While curvy furniture is still very much on trend, many interior designers are also favoring more streamlined, classic furniture silhouettes for 2025.
If you’re buying a large piece of furniture this year, like a sofa or bed, you might opt for timeless fabric options like linen, cotton, performance fabrics, or velvet, as the current popularity of nubby fabrics like boucle’ might wane in the next few years.
If you really love the look of boucle’ and sherpa, you can easily bring the look to your home via accent chairs, benches, throws, pillows, and ottomans.
Quiet luxury
The quiet luxury interior design trend involves bringing a sumptuous, sophisticated, and timeless look to a space.
A quiet luxury style living room might incorporate a warm color palette, collected accents, plush seating, soft rugs, layered lighting, and upholstery and pillows in luxurious fabrics like linen, cotton, or velvet.

If you’d like to add a few luxurious touches to your living room, consider bringing in some soft throw blankets and pillows in neutral tones and creating a sense of warmth via scented candles and ambient lighting.

A new take on modern farmhouse style
Will farmhouse style be out in 2025?
While modern farmhouse will still be extremely popular in 2025, this design style will continue to evolve to a more refined, timeless aesthetic, borrowing aspects from modern European, Belgian farmhouse, California casual, and Mediterranean styles.
This newer, elevated version of modern farmhouse style is often referred to as organic modern style, and shows no signs of slowing down in the coming year — especially in the living room.
With the addition of luxurious textures, interesting shapes, organic elements, and a mixture of vintage and modern pieces, farmhouse style has evolved into a classic, timeless aesthetic we’ll be seeing for years to come.
Personal expression
In 2025, living room design will focus more on personal expression and less on certain design styles or trends, resulting in a merging of different aesthetics.
One common factor embraced by interior designers and homeowners alike in 2025 will be a more elevated, intentional approach to decorating.
