Whether you’re interested in timeless style or are looking for something fresh and modern, I hope you’ll find plenty of inspiration and practical ideas for updating your home in this post.
What interior design styles are trending for 2025?
As we head into 2025, interior design styles and trends are expected to lean toward a more thoughtful approach to design, focusing on creating spaces that reflect your personality and lifestyle, as you’ll see below.

Top 10 Interior Design Styles for 2025
From timeless favorites to emerging trends, here’s a closer look at the most popular interior design styles for 2025.
1. Modern Farmhouse
Modern farmhouse style strikes the perfect balance between timeless charm and modern sophistication, making it universally appealing.
Chango and Co. – counter stools
And, while modern farmhouse interior design will still be one of the most popular design styles in 2025, it continues to evolve, incorporating elements from organic modern, mid-century modern, modern rustic, and California casual styles.
The updated version of modern farmhouse style features curved silhouettes, a warm earthy color palette, matte metal finishes, and less emphasis on shiplap and reclaimed wood barn doors.
Alexis Andra Austin – similar stools – similar bedding
With a focus on natural textures, curvy shapes, and an interesting mix of vintage and modern elements, modern farmhouse 2.0 shows no signs of diminishing in popularity in 2025.
Is shiplap going out of style in 2025?
While shiplap is still in style, you’ll often see it installed vertically, rather than horizontally, which gives it a more modern look. Shiplap is also becoming a popular ceiling treatment.
And, as we move into 2025 and beyond, shiplap wall treatments will be associated more with modern coastal style and coastal farmhouse style, rather than modern farmhouse style.
Variation: Coastal Farmhouse Style
Coastal farmhouse style is a mix of modern coastal decor and modern farmhouse interior design, resulting in an elegant yet relaxed aesthetic.
Brooke Wagner – Brandon Architects – Patterson Custom Homes
A few key elements of coastal farmhouse style include:
- Neutral and soft tones, such as white and off-white, sandy beige, and ocean blue.
- Natural materials like wood, wicker, rattan, and linen.
- The incorporation of beachy accents like ocean-inspired artwork.
See my post, Modern Coastal Farmhouse Style Decorating Ideas for Your Home, for more on this style.
2. Organic Modern Decor
With its warm color palette, breezy aesthetic, and comfortable, relaxed attitude, organic modern style is a great choice for 2025 interiors.
A modern organic space typically incorporates the colors and textures of nature, including natural wood furniture, baskets, natural fiber rugs, woven elements, and easy-care textiles like cotton and linen.
The Life Styled Co. – marble coffee tables
In an organic modern living room, you’ll often see curved furniture, a color palette inspired by nature, and organic elements – all of which convey a relaxed, comfortable approach to living and decorating.

Variation: Modern Minimalist
Similar to organic modern style, minimalism focuses on simplicity and organization, which aligns with the ongoing trend of living more intentionally.
Some key features of modern minimalist style include:
- Clean, streamlined designs with an emphasis on functionality.
- Monochromatic or neutral color schemes.
- High-quality materials and a “less is more” philosophy.
3. Transitional Interior Design
Jenny Martin Design – Coast Prestige Homes
A mix of traditional and contemporary styles, transitional decor is perfect for those who like to blend classic and modern elements in their home.
Transitional style typically features neutral colors, clean lines, wall treatments, symmetry, and a balance between ornate and minimalistic decor — with balance being a key element.
from my post on Restoration Hardware Style
A flexible and versatile style, transitional design is expected to remain popular in 2025, potentially leaning more toward Soft Modern, in which contemporary elements are softened with traditional touches and spaces are designed for maximum comfort and livability.

Coastal style, along with its more contemporary version, Modern Coastal decor, brings a beachy, relaxed vibe to interiors, making it one of the most popular design styles for 2025 (and my personal favorite!).
Light, airy spaces, soft colors inspired by the sea and sand, natural textures like rattan, cane, and jute, and subtle stripes are key components of coastal and modern coastal styles.
Coastal style continues to resonate with people as they crave a serene, vacation-like vibe at home.
Its emphasis on relaxation and connection to nature makes this aesthetic perfect for creating a soothing atmosphere.
Some key elements of coastal interior design include:
- Soft, ocean-inspired color palettes featuring whites, blues, and sandy neutrals.
- Natural materials like linen, cotton, rattan, jute, and wood.
- Light and airy spaces with large windows to welcome natural light.
In 2025 and beyond, coastal design is expected to continue to evolve into Organic Coastal style, incorporating more natural and sustainable materials and elements of biophilic design to create an even stronger connection to nature.

A few key features of mid-century modern interior design include:
- Clean lines, organic shapes, and functional furniture.
- Retro-inspired materials like teak wood, leather, and brass.

A few features of boho style include:
- Eclectic layering of colors, patterns, and textures.
- Global influences, including Moroccan rugs and macramé wall hangings.
- Plants galore — think hanging greenery, succulents, and oversized potted plants.
Influenced by the luxe interior design trend, in 2025 boho style is predicted to evolve into a more refined and less cluttered aesthetic, known as Modern Boho or Boho Luxe.

7. Scandinavian Style
Known for its simplicity, functionality, and connection to nature, Scandinavian design emphasizes clean lines, muted colors, and natural materials like wood, wool, sheepskin, and leather.
Scandinavian interiors are often characterized by cozy textiles, minimalism, and a focus on light and airy spaces.
Pure Salt Interiors – dining chairs – pendant
Scandinavian style’s emphasis on simplicity and coziness resonates with the growing desire for homes that are both serene and practical.
The Scandinavian concept of “hygge” — creating a warm, inviting atmosphere — has universal appeal, and its sustainable approach aligns with the increasing demand for eco-conscious design.
Some key features of Scandinavian style interior design include:
- Light neutral color palettes dominated by whites, grays, soft pastels, and warm natural tones for a light and open ambiance.
- Simple yet stylish furniture pieces with clean lines and practical designs, often crafted from natural materials like wood and leather.
- Cozy textiles such as wool throws, faux fur, and knitted cushions for abundant warmth and comfort.
- Minimalist decor, with uncluttered spaces, thoughtfully chosen decor, and a “less is more” philosophy.
- Abundant natural light, with large windows and minimal window coverings to maximize sunlight and enhance the open airy feel.
- A focus on eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient designs, and sustainable living practices.
The Scandinavian design aesthetic remains a perennial favorite for its ability to combine beauty with functionality and will endure in 2025.
However, we’re seeing this style trend toward Warm Minimalism, where minimalist spaces are softened with even more textiles, warmer tones, and natural materials.

Characterized by clean lines, neutral color palettes, and the juxtaposition of raw materials like distressed wood, metal, and leather with more luxurious finishes such as polished marble, gilded mirrors, and soft textiles, modern rustic luxe style is all about creating a space that feels both lived-in and elevated, balancing form with function.

9. Traditional Interior Design
Rooted in European decor, traditional style will remain popular through 2025 and beyond, with its emphasis on classic furniture, rich wood tones, vintage rugs, and elegant fabrics like silk and velvet.
Traditional style often incorporates symmetry and exudes a warm, inviting ambiance.
While traditional design will continue to be prevalent in 2025, it might begin to merge with more contemporary styles in what’s sometimes referred to as New Traditional or Modern Classic style.
This updated version might include more streamlined furniture, fresher color palettes, and a harmonious mix of classic and modern decor.
Variation: Grandmillennial Style
A variation of traditional style, Grandmillennial, features traditional decor with a twist — floral prints, vintage furniture, and ornate details.
In Grandmillennial style, you’ll find warm color palettes mixed with playful wallpaper patterns and nostalgic elements like needlepoint pillows and china displays.
Grandmilennial style is currently trending because it brings a sense of comfort and nostalgia to a space, while remaining fresh and modern.
10. Japandi Style
A fusion of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian functionality, Japandi style is all about simplicity, natural materials, and a calm, serene atmosphere.
Bone Made – similar dining chairs
In Japandi style, the color palette is typically neutral, with white or off-white walls, and an emphasis on quality over quantity.
Japandi interior design reflects the growing appreciation for mindful living and uncluttered spaces, making it ideal for creating a peaceful sanctuary.
This style is predicted to grow in popularity in 2025, in part due to its focus on sustainability and craftsmanship.
Some key features of Japandi style include:
- A fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design principles.
- A neutral color palette with a focus on simplicity and natural textures.
- A minimalist aesthetic with an emphasis on comfort and functionality.
Future versions of the Japandi interior design style might lean toward a Wabi-Sabi approach, a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, with a focus on natural aging and organic forms.
As we step into 2025, the world of interior design will continue to evolve, blending classic sensibilities with fresh, modern influences.
Whether your preferred interior design style is modern farmhouse, contemporary coastal, California casual, Scandinavian, minimalist, Japandi, transitional, eclectic, timeless, or somewhere in between, I hope this post provided some helpful information and guidance for your next home refresh.
