Stylish Entryway Ideas for a Beautiful First Impression

I like to think of the entryway, or foyer, as a preview of the rest of your home. It gives people a good idea of who you are, where you like to travel, what kind of art you like, and your favorite colors.  But for a long time, I didn’t give our entryway decor a second thought!  Thankfully, at some point I realized that as the first space people see when they visit, the entryway probably deserves more attention than any other room in our home.  With that in mind, today I’m sharing several inspiring entryways, along with entryway decor ideas and tips for making your entry beautiful, inviting and functional in 2025 and beyond.

To make your entryway feel cohesive, try to think of it as a glimpse into your personality.  Start with a color, pattern, or style you love, then add in some art, accents, and furnishings that bring your foyer to life.

Entryway decor trends for 2025

In 2025 interior design, we’re seeing an interesting mix of new and returning decor trends.

Some popular decor trends for the entryway include the use of neutral color palettes, curved and rounded furniture styles, a touch of quiet luxury, organic modern spaces, modern coastal and California casual influences, and more.

Also, for the past several years we’ve seen a prevalence of gray and light natural wood furniture finishes; however, in 2025 we’re seeing a return of warm wood finishes throughout the home — not just in furniture, but in wood flooring, as well.

Entryway Design and Decor Ideas for 2025

If you’re looking for ideas for decorating your entryway, as you browse through the entryway inspo photos below, make a mental note of what you love about each space.

Notice whether you’re drawn to the entryway table or cabinet, the lighting, the entryway rug or artwork, color scheme, the entryway decor, or the creative storage solutions. Or perhaps, like me, you’re drawn to a little bit of everything.

Creating a beautiful and functional entryway that reflects your style and personality isn’t hard to do.

As you’ll see in the beautiful spaces below, it simply involves working with the space you have, paying attention to a few basics, and adding your own unique touch.

1. Keep it light

First, since the front entrance sets the tone for the rest of your home, try to keep it bright, well-lit and clutter-free so visitors aren’t tripping over things as they come in.

2. Add a place to hang coats, hats & scarves

One thing I try to remember to do before we have people over is make sure there’s room in the coat closet for their coats.

Adding a coat rack with a few hooks available for visitors to hang coats and purses, is a great way to make your guests feel welcome.

3. Make your foyer functional

Foyers often get completely lost in piles of coats, shoes, and backpacks.

The gorgeous mudroom below features built-in cabinetry for corralling hats, bags, coats, backpacks and boots.  Plus, there’s additional hidden storage space in the cabinets above the nooks.

To help keep clutter to a minimum, try to think of everything you want to keep in the entryway and then decide what kind of storage options you’ll need.

4. Welcome warmth with a rug

If you have tile or wood flooring in your front entryway, a rug can soften the space, add color and texture, and pick up the dirt that’s tracked in.

Dash & Albert makes a great range of easy-care rugs, perfect for the entry.

The floor in our entryway tends to get very dirty, especially when it rains or snows, so I like to use rugs that can be thrown in the washing machine when they start looking a little dingy.

5. Don’t forget a mirror

Mirrors are a wonderful addition to the foyer.  Not only do mirrors brighten and lighten the entryway, they make it easy to take a last-minute look at yourself before you head out the door!

6. Provide a spot to sit

Another thing I love to include in the foyer is some type of seating so guests can sit while they remove their shoes or boots.

Folding stools or upholstered cubes, like the ones shown below, provide the perfect seating solution in a small entryway or modern foyer design.

7. Add some personality

When thinking of foyer decor, add in the colors, patterns, or styles you love and that reflect your personality.

8. Create a drop zone

If you have a small entryway and don’t have enough space for a sideboard or cabinet, try to include a shelf or small table to set mail, homework, and keys – otherwise known as a drop zone.

Really great post—I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Love your entry, Jane! I’ve always felt mine sets the tone for our home in style and color. After reading this, I’m thinking of adding a folding stool somewhere near our back entry for shoe removal!

Hi Myra! Isn’t that a beautiful table? I believe it was a one-of-a-kind piece, but Restoration Hardware’s website does carry a few similar rustic console tables. xo Jane

Is the dresser you link to on Houzz the exact one you have? I really love the color but the Houzz picture seems so much darker.

Hi Abby! Thank you so much for your comment — the one on Houzz isn’t the exact same dresser. The one in my entryway was purchased a few years ago and I painted it with Valspar Indigo Streamer spray paint and added the brass hardware, which I found at Hobby Lobby. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to link the exact one! Have a great day! xo jane
