Color of the Year 2025 + Top Home Color Trends

One of my favorite things to do is talk about color, so when the top paint color companies announce their colors of the year, I get pretty excited.  Not only are the Color of the Year forecasts a helpful guide when selecting paint shades, they’re a great way to predict the popular interior design trends for the coming year. 

So when paint companies like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Valspar, Behr, and others recently started revealing their Colors of the Year for 2025, I wanted to share them with you.  

As you’ll see, the trending colors for 2025 are designed to bring a sense of warmth, comfort, and elegance to your home.  And, with a few exceptions, most of these hues would work well in just about any room in the house — and with just about any interior design style.

Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2025

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year for 2025 is Cinnamon Slate.  Described as “a delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown,” this nuanced shade would bring a smooth and calming sense to any design.

Cinnamon Slate is part of Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends 2025, a color palette of foundational colors designed to transition gracefully from room to room, exuding “warmth, comfort, and a sense of ease.”

In addition to the 2025 Color of the Year, Cinnamon Slate, the Benjamin Moore 2025 Color Palette includes Sea Salt (a nuanced neutral that balances warm and cool), Leather Saddle Brown (a rich brown inspired by well-worn leather), Chowning’s Tan (a rich tan complementing period furnishings), Tissue Pink (a graceful blush with a flattering glow), Stained Glass (a captivating teal), Ashwood Moss (a deep graphite green), Rosepine (a forest green with hints of gray), Paris Rain (a grayish hue with a touch of soft green), and Glacier White (an off-white with cream undertones).

Any of the shades in the 2025 Color Trends palette would pair beautifully with neutral hues or any of the other colors in the palette.

By the way, if you’re looking for one of the top Benjamin Moore white paints, my favorite is White Dove (OC-17), which we used to paint our kitchen cabinets and several rooms in our home.  

Behr Color of the Year 2025

Behr’s Color of the Year for 2025 is Rumors (MQ1-15), a deep ruby red, perfect for interior walls, ceilings, and trim in the living room, dining room, bedroom, and more.

Rumors is a sophisticated shade that anyone could incorporate in their home.  And, in my opinion, this particular shade of red is a classic.

Rumors could be used to create a calming, welcoming atmosphere in the living room.

Here, Rumors brings a fresh, modern feeling to kitchen cabinets.  Upper cabinets are Behr Blank Canvas.

I love the look of this color in the dining room.  This shade has the ability to make any space feel more modern and elegant.

Rumors is an engaging and captivating hue that would make a statement and add a touch of drama and elegance both inside and outside your home.

Sherwin Williams Colors of the Year 2025

The Sherwin Williams 2025 Colors of the Year are encompassed in their Color Capsules, a collection of 2025’s top trending hues, divided into four color palettes:  Chrysalis, Paradox, Wellspring, and Kindred.

Here’s an example of these four trending color palettes in action:

Wellspring Capsule:

Sherwin Williams French Roast (SW 6069) and Oyster White (SW 7637)

The versatility of these hues makes them adaptable to just about any space in the home. 

Kindred Capsule:

Sherwin Williams Dark Night (SW 6237) and Tidewater (SW 6477)

Love, love this combination of dark blue and white in the bedroom!

Chrysalis Capsule:

Sherwin Williams Mexican Sand (SW 7519)

Described as minimal yet cozy, this color would make a nice backdrop or accent color for living spaces.

Paradox Capsule:

Sherwin Williams Slow Green (SW 6456) and Quilt Gold (SW 6696)

This is a pretty bold look, but I could see it working well in a bungalow or craftsman style home.

Sherwin Williams color marketing director describes these four color capsules as “an exploration of the magic contained within the colors, materials and finishes that will inspire innovation, create connections and illuminate the future of residential and commercial design.”

Valspar Color of the Year

The 2025 Valspar color of the year is Encore, 8002-45G, a rich shade of blue with a slight tinge of violet.  

This trending color of the year radiates joy and optimism, creating the perfect backdrop for happiness in the home.

This hue is designed to bridge both digital and physical spaces, mimicking the mood in virtual space, and would be at home just about anywhere — indoors or out.

The Valspar 2025 Color of the Year is an approachable and livable shade that would work well in any space, including the kitchen.

Valspar Encore is a balanced shade, merging cool tones of blue with a touch of violet.  Here, it’s beautifully paired with white trim as an exterior color:

It’s probably no surprise that I love Valspar’s color of the year for 2025.  This rich shade of blue is a calming hue perfect for restoring mind, body and home.

Not only is it trend-worthy, Valspar Encore is a classic, timeless shade that would bring an elegant touch to any room.

Pantone Color of the Year 2025

Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year will be announced in early December, and I’ll update this post with that information as soon as it’s made public.

Using Color in Your Home

Mixing and matching colors in your home doesn’t have to be daunting.  Try styling deep, saturated hues with light neutrals as a contrast.

You can soften the bold look of color by introducing curved forms and luxurious textures to create a look that’s both inspiring and calming.

White paint can also be used in manyways throughout the home — not only is white the most popular color for kitchen cabinets, it’s perfect for walls, trim and molding, shelving, furniture, and bathroom vanities, as well.
