Today I’m sharing a quick holiday tour of our home. Even though I’m calling it my Christmas home tour, this is more a sharing of moments (i.e., when a space was clean, the sun was shining, and I snapped a pic!).  Lately, I’m all about comfort, coziness, softness, and touches of nature–and you’ll see that reflected throughout our home.

This Christmas my focus is on slowing down, relaxing, and savoring all the joys of the season. With that in mind, I kept my holiday decor pretty minimal this year, incorporating a few favorite pieces gathered over the years and trying out a few new things here and there.

Home for the Holidays: My Christmas Home Tour

Entryway

This little blue cabinet is the first thing you see when you walk in our front door. This year seemed like the perfect opportunity to try out a cheerful pop of red in this space, via a tiny mistletoe wreath and faux amaryllis.

I also added some Christmas cheer to this space with a vintage Turkish rug and string of bells.

Dining Room

To the left of the entryway is our dining room, where we usually gather for holiday dinners with our kids, grands and my mom.  We have a new light fixture in here which was just begging for a garland to be draped over it! I love the natural canopy it creates over the table.

This year, I went with a nature-inspired theme with some greenery, a mix of candlesticks,  and hurricane candle holders filled with pine cones, spruce sprigs and cranberries.  (Note–right before Christmas, I changed my tablescape to a more festive, colorful theme, which you can see in my Christmas Tablescape Ideas post.)

Each place is set with a woven charger, white plates, and scalloped napkins embellished with a string of velvet ribbon and a tiny tassel.  Easy and festive!

Living Room

This year’s Christmas tree decor is a bit different–rather than my usual blue and white theme, I went with white and silver ornaments, black tassels and ribbons, and wood bead strands.

Since our two 2-year-old grands love to explore, all the decorations on the tree and around the house are non-breakable and toddler friendly!

Due to our covered patio, this space doesn’t get much natural light during the fall and winter months — so whenever a ray of sunshine finds its way in, I grab my phone and snap a photo!

My favorite time of day is late afternoon, when this room lights up for just a few minutes right before the sun goes down.

On the other side of the room, my china cabinet is adorned for the season with a vibrant wreath. I love a pop of green with black!

Hearth Room

Our hearth room/TV area, which is adjacent to our kitchen, is in a weird limbo state right now so I didn’t decorate it for Christmas, other than adding a few simple touches to the mantel, via some black candlesticks, a eucalyptus garland, and a wood bead strand. I also hung tiny boxwood wreaths in all the windows.

By the way, we recently painted our (formerly gold granite) fireplace surround with matte black paint, and I’m really happy with the updated look!

Kitchen

I love adding cozy touches to the kitchen! The twinkle lights around the window add a magical glow, so I keep them lit all day/every day during the Christmas season.

I also love displaying various fruits and vegetables on our kitchen counters during the holiday season. I just pop them on a pedestal …

… or in a bowl for a festive pop of color!

This is the first year I added a festive look to our counter stools, via mistletoe and velvet ribbons (attached with double-sided tape).

Master Bedroom

Our bedroom was my favorite space to decorate for Christmas this year–a festive wreath, a touch of fur at the foot of the bed, and the glow of our bedside lamps were all it took to make our master bedroom feel like a cozy winter retreat.

Guest Bedroom

I carried the cozy feeling into our guest bedroom by adding a Scandinavian-style lumbar pillow and matelasse coverlet to the bed and a faux pine and eucalyptus garland to the headboard.

Last year I tried draping fresh pine garlands over the headboards in the bedrooms–big mistake! Within minutes there were pine needles on the pillows. Even thought faux garlands aren’t quite as pretty or beautiful-smelling as fresh, they’re definitely less messy!
