My Holiday Home Tour: Easy Christmas Decorating Ideas

It’s official. The holidays are here! In recent years, I felt like I wasn’t fully present–running here and there, trying to do all the things. This year, though, I’m slowing down and savoring every special moment. And as part of that resolve, I’m keeping my Christmas decorating simple and easy, incorporating the decorating ideas I’ve learned over the years.

Rather than lugging all my boxes of holiday decorations up from the basement, this year I’m going with a simple theme of trees, wreaths, and a few ceramic houses, incorporating my favorite color scheme of blue, white and black (with a touch of green).

After years of going all-out, I’m loving the look of less stuff.  Now it’s about simple and soft and lots of natural elements. As a bonus, less stuff out means less to pack away later!

So, without further ado, welcome to my holiday home tour–with a few easy Christmas decorating ideas thrown in here and there!

Holiday guests are greeted at the front door with a festive wreath that makes a soft jingle as they enter the house.

My blue entryway cabinet is decorated for the season with trees and tiny ceramic houses in a white and gold tray, and I added a small boxwood wreath to the mirror, using a suction hook. I love the sight of a twinkling Christmas tree when I walk in the house!

Adding wreaths to doors, windows, mirrors, and cabinets is one of my favorite ways to dress up our home for Christmas.

This is my second year with a color-themed Christmas tree of blue, white and silver ornaments; in the past we always had a mix of handmade and sentimental ornaments collected through the years.  I have to admit I miss our special ornaments, so I’m thinking of setting up a second tree somewhere else in the house where I can display them.

In the little hearth room off our kitchen, lots of fresh blue and white makes this space feel festive for the holidays.

This is the first year I’ve had the updated version of our kitchen for the entire holiday season, as last December we were just having the cabinets painted and finishing up all the details.

I’m having so much fun adding holiday touches to this space. I especially love the twinkle lights draped over the window.  I keep them lit all day during the Christmas season.

If you have some oranges or clementines on hand, trying adding some to your Christmas decorating. They look especially pretty with white and blue and add a vibrant pop of color to the kitchen.

I loved adding a touch of Christmas to our breakfast nook this year, too, as this is the first year we’ve had this table, chairs and pendant light.

I carried the festive feeling into our master bedroom by adding a faux garland to the headboard, along with a touch of velvet on the bed.

Last year, I tried adding a fresh pine garland over our bed–which lasted about 20 minutes before I decided I’d rather not sleep with pine needles on my pillow! Even thought the faux garland isn’t as pretty (or pretty smelling) its definitely less messy!

Along with a touch of fur at the foot of the bed and the glow of our brass lamps, our bedroom feels like a cozy winter retreat.

As I’ve shared before, no matter how I decorate our home for the holidays, nothing compares with the joy of celebrating the reason for this wonderful season! 🙏
