Spring 2026 is almost here, and I’m excited to refresh and decorate our home for the new season! If you feel the same way, today I’m sharing some simple spring decor ideas, along with a few tips for decorating a spring mantel, as well.
Since I’m all about keeping things easy, the spring decorating ideas in this post involve creative ways of using colors, textures, and items you already have around your house, like fresh greenery, plants, woven elements, trays, and pillows.
Whether you like to go all out with decorating for spring or prefer to just add a few simple seasonal touches here and there, I hope these modern spring home decor ideas and spring mantel ideas will help you embrace the season, indoors and out.

When to decorate for spring
I usually start decorating our home for spring in early March — or at least by the first day of spring — which this year is Friday, March 20, 2026.
However, whenever you feel a desire to refresh your home for the new season, I say go for it! Life is too short to live in spaces that don’t bring us joy.

1. Add floral accents and plants
When it comes to adding a touch of spring to your home, in my opinion, there’s nothing quite like incorporating flowers and plants.

By bringing the outside in, you can revive your space with the natural beauty of blossoms and greenery.

Whether it’s a bouquet of fresh flowers on the kitchen counter or botanical prints scattered throughout the room, floral accents can instantly brighten and liven up any space, including the bathroom!
As we transition from winter to spring, floral accents and greenery serve as a way to seamlessly blend the two seasons together, creating a space that feels both comforting and fresh. 
When decorating our home for spring, I like to begin by gathering fresh branches and greenery from our yard.
There’s nothing easier or more beautiful than bringing a touch of the outdoors inside, and it’s one of my favorite tips for decorating for spring on a budget.

In addition to fresh flowers, I like to choose a variety of indoor plants that thrive in natural light and require minimal maintenance, such as fresh herbs, succulents, ferns, boxwoods, and orchids.
Try placing your plants and flowers in decorative pots and planters that complement your existing decor to create a cohesive look throughout your home.

Adding a bowl of fresh fruits or vegetables to your kitchen countertops is another great way to bring a touch of spring to the kitchen.
I love the look of a bowl of lemons on the kitchen countertop.

2. Lighter fabrics
Adding in some light and airy fabrics can transition your home from winter to springtime.
Incorporating sheer curtains, lightweight linens, and breezy fabrics is one of my favorite ways to update a space with a sense of lightness and freshness that reflects the season.
One of the easiest ways to bring a fresh look to your couch, chairs, and beds is by adding a few new pillows — or simply rearranging the ones you already own.

Lighter textiles not only add a touch of spring to your home but also allow natural light to filter through, creating a sense of brightness and airiness.
H & M, Pottery Barn, and West Elm are great sources for spring pillow covers. They offer linen, cotton, and velvet versions in every hue.
3. Make a statement with patterns
For a modern and stylish touch , consider incorporating some prints in your spring decor.
Stripes are on trend for spring 2026 in both fashion and home decor, but whether it’s stripes, floral designs, or abstract motifs, adding patterns will make a statement in any room.

4. Update your bedroom with new bedding
Spring is the perfect time to freshen up your bedroom for the warmer months with new bedding in lighter tones and textures.
Adding layered bedding in neutral tones is a great way to update your primary or master bedroom for spring while retaining a feeling of coziness, as shown in this beautiful space.

Or, you can simply refresh your look by switching out your heavy winter blankets, throws, and pillows with lighter-weight and lighter-toned versions.
I love white bedding and neutral tones year-round, but especially in spring and summer, because they make the bedroom feel calm and cool.

5. Rearrange the furniture

Rearranging the furniture only costs a few minutes of time (and maybe a few sore muscles), but it can return dividends in satisfaction, making you fall in love with your home again.
Not only does moving the furniture change the look of your home, it can change the way you use and live in your spaces during the warmer months.

6. Soften your space with color
Another way to welcome spring to your home is with softer hues that create a serene and calming atmosphere.
By incorporating pastel hues in your decor via throw pillows, rugs, blankets, curtains, or accent pieces, you can instantly soften the look and feeling of a space.

Flowers, foliage, or branches from your yard or garden or bought from the supermarket are an easy way to decorate a fireplace mantel or open shelving for spring.

Mixing a mirror with smaller artwork and adding a couple of candle sticks and greenery creates a stylish spring mantel that will look beautiful through summer and into fall.
Spring mantel styling tips
Here are a few styling tips for decorating a mantel, shelf, or any surface.
- If you don’t have a TV above your fireplace, create a central focal point with a mirror or large piece of artwork.
- Use a stack of books to raise objects off the mantel. If you don’t like the way the book bindings look, turn them around to reveal their lighter-colored pages.
- Combine items in groups of threes–preferably with a tall item, a shorter sculptural item, and a horizontal item.
- Balance hard and soft objects, as well as things with different textures, colors, tones, and styles.
- Layer by placing some things in front of others and some off to the side, to create more depth and give your mantel a natural look.
- Edit — move things around until you achieve the look you’re going for.

8. Update your artwork
One of my favorite spring decor ideas is to switch out artwork for something like that reflects the carefree feeling of spring and summer, such as botanical prints.

9. Let in the light
As the hours of sunshine increase each day, this is the perfect time to maximize the amount of light in your home by replacing heavy or dark curtains with white or lighter-colored versions — or removing them altogether.

In the same vein, think about tweaking your artificial lighting sources, too. Replacing lamps and light fixtures with new ones can give an entirely new look to a room.

10. Freshen up the front porch and patio
A grouping of two or three tall planters or baskets next to the front door — especially when filled with green plants — gives a modern spring look to your porch or patio.

They’re the Rustique Bamboo shades from Overstock; unfortunately, the company has discontinued these exact shades with the dark vertical stitching and is now carrying a version called Petite Rustique with lighter stitching, which can also be found at Amazon, Walmart and Home Depot.
