If you’ve been following along for a while, you probably know that blue is my favorite color. I’ve found that blue, especially when paired with white, can completely transform a room, lending a fresh look to every space — making it perfect for spring and summer decorating.
With that in mind, today I’m excited to share some easy ways to bring a fresh look to your home by decorating with blue and white for spring and summer 2024.
This post will provide some easy tips for incorporating stylish blue into your decor, from choosing the perfect hues to complete your space to pairing blue with other colors so your home looks harmonious and balanced.
Is blue home decor still in style?
Whether you’re updating your existing decor or starting from scratch, blue will always be a classic, timeless choice.
In fact, not only is blue the world’s favorite color overall, it’s the second most popular color choice for the home (after white).
So, if you’re looking to add a timeless and sophisticated look to your home, blue is definitely the answer.
Whether you prefer a bold and statement-making shade like navy or indigo, or a soft and soothing hue like powder blue, blue has the ability to elevate the look and feeling of your entire home.
Whether you choose to just add a few blue accents here and there or completely change the tone and style of your home, I hope you’ll be encouraged to incorporate a touch of beautiful blue decor in your home this spring.

If you’re ready to give your home a makeover for the new season, below you’ll find some tips on how to incorporate blue and white in your home decor, along with ideas and inspiration to add a touch of blue decor to your home.
Whether you want to update your living room, bedroom, entryway, patio, or kitchen, blue is the perfect addition to any space.
1. Make a statement
One way to incorporate blue into your home décor is through the use of statement pieces, such as blue sofas, arm chairs, or console tables.

This is a great way to add a pop of color and visual interest to an otherwise neutral room, providing a strong base for you to build your décor around.
This little cabinet in our entryway used to be black, but once I painted it blue (with Valspar Indigo Streamer), it became the focal point of our entryway.
2. Keep it balanced
When decorating with blue, it’s important to consider the other elements in your space, such as lighting, furniture, and accessories.

The right balance of these elements can make all the difference in creating a cohesive and harmonious look. For example, if you have a blue sofa, consider using neutral-colored accessories and lighting to balance out the look.
If you have blue cabinets in the kitchen, balancing them with white countertops is a great way to create a sense of balance and cohesiveness.

3. Sprinkle in some blue accents
Another way to incorporate blue in your home décor is through the use of accessories and accents, such as curtains, lamps, and rugs.
Here’s a stunning living room from Kate Marker Interiors incorporating soft blue shades in the lamps and accents for a serene coastal feel.
Pillows and throws are an especially easy and affordable way to bring a touch of blue to your space without making a huge commitment.
You can switch out accents seasonally or as your taste changes, making it an easy and flexible way to decorate your home.
I love using blue pillows, artwork, rugs, and accent pieces to create a calm and serene atmosphere in our primary bedroom.
Adding blue accent pieces here and there, through artwork, throws, rugs, and pillows, is a great low-commitment way to incorporate blue in your home décor.
4. Pair blue with crisp white
If you’re looking for a timeless and sophisticated look, consider pairing blue with white. This classic color combination is elegant and versatile, and it can be used in a variety of styles, from coastal to traditional.
In the beautiful space below, from Lindye Galloway Studio , the neutral furniture, striped pillows, and white shelves pair beautifully with shades of classic blue on the cabinetry and in the rug.
You can use blue and white in your décor through patterned textiles, such as throw pillows or curtains, or through the use of statement pieces, such as a blue and white ginger jar or piece of artwork.

5. Create an interesting mix
Another approach is to mix blue with other colors to create a harmonious look. In addition to white, blue pairs beautifully with every other color and metal finish, making it a true neutral.

Blue and green is one of my favorite color combinations to use in our home. I love the feelings of calm and relaxation these two colors evoke when paired together.
You can easily incorporate different color combinations in your décor through the use of artwork, textiles, and accent pieces.
6. Layer in some pattern and texture
When it comes to blue décor, pattern and texture also play an important role in elevating your space.
Stripes happen to be my favorite pattern, and you’ll see several striped rugs and pillows throughout our home.
When I wanted to make our living room feel a bit more relaxed and comfortable for spring and summer, we brought in a striped blue rug, as well as a round wood coffee table and a white slipcovered sectional.
Consider adding a textured blue throw blanket or a patterned blue rug to your living room to add depth and interest.
You can also use patterned blue curtains or wallpaper to create a bold and impactful look in a bedroom or dining room.
7. Take it outdoors
Last, but not least, don’t forget to add a touch of blue to your outdoor spaces!
Last summer I created an entirely new look on our patio by adding in some blue rugs and seat cushions — and an abundance of flowers and plants!
As you can see, the sky is the limit when it comes to decorating with blue for spring and summer, so I encourage you to give it a try!
Remember, your home is a reflection of your personality and style, so have fun decorating with blue and make this look your own.
I think you’ll find you simply can’t go wrong with this classic, versatile hue. Have a wonderful day! xo jane
