2024 Landscaping Trends
In 2024 landscape design trends, you can expect to see an emphasis on private backyard oases, with enclosed patios, privacy fences, outdoor living spaces, and luxurious patio and pool areas.
The back yard and patio are becoming summer staycation destinations, complete with outdoor fireplaces and/or fire pits, swimming pools, TVs, outdoor kitchens, and raised-bed gardening boxes.

In addition, thanks to the Apple TV series, Palm Royale, Palm Beach style is making a major comeback in both interior design and landscape design.
Inspired by the luxurious and glamorous lifestyle of Palm Beach, this trend is all about bringing the timeless allure of palm-fringed paradises to your yard and garden.
Featuring crisp whites, bold pops of color, lush tropical prints, and plenty of rattan and bamboo accents, Palm Beach style is the perfect inspiration for both front yard and backyard landscaping.
With a mix of old-school glamour and modern sophistication, the Palm Beach look is a wonderful way to bring fresh, breezy style to your outdoor spaces.
What home and garden styles are trending in 2024?
In 2024, home and garden design is both looking back and moving forward. In addition to a revival of French country style, cottage style, and Mediterranean style designs, we’re seeing plenty of modern homes and landscaping with a minimalist look.
And, while modern farmhouse style homes are still popular in 2024, we’ll see this style of architecture and landscaping continue to evolve into an elevated look, borrowing aspects from European farmhouse, Hamptons, modern coastal, and French country style homes.
This stylish home is a great example of modern farmhouse style in 2024.
Although some of the landscaping ideas you’ll see here were designed a few years ago, they’re still on trend, which illustrates the importance of planning your landscaping with a long-term, timeless perspective.
However, when it comes to designing your outdoor areas, there really are no rules – other than doing what works best with the style of your home, your weather and growing zone, and the amount of space you have to work with.

Garden borders
Landscape borders are a wonderful way to add sculpting lines and low maintenance, free-form landscaping all around your house.
Adding landscape borders around the perimeter of your front yard, backyard, and around the sides of your house will increase the property value and curb appeal of your home.
In our back yard, we added a mixture of large trees, colorful flowers, larger shrubs, perennial plants and flowers, large and small rocks, and mulch.
Tips for choosing border plants for your yard
When choosing landscape border plants for the front, back, and sides of your house, it’s a good idea to consider how much sun that area receives.
On the south side of your home, the house walls will get extremely hot in the summer, so your planting beds on the south side need to incorporate plants that can handle full sun and a hot environment.
Similarly, if the side of your house faces north, you’ll want to choose foundation plants for shady areas.
Plants that thrive in shady areas with minimal sunlight are the best choice for the north side of the house. You can ask someone at your local garden center what they recommend for your region.
In the landscape borders on the north side of our house, we planted a mix of golden privets and hyssop plants.
On the south side of our house, we planted several Russian sage plants. They love the warm temperatures and abundant sunshine of a southern exposure.
Backyard landscaping ideas on a budget
Whether you have a small backyard or a large area to landscape, one of the best ways to landscape your back yard without spending a lot of money is by using native plants and low cost perennials.
Salvia and spirea are two of my favorite hardy perennials for the front and back yard.
