If in-between weather has you wondering how to decorate your home for this time of year, today I’m sharing some ideas for effortlessly transitioning from light and breezy summer decor to a warm, cozy, and welcoming look in your home for fall 2024.
I’ve found that neutral and natural decor works beautifully for both summer and fall, making it easier to slowly transition your home from one season to the next.
With that in mind, below you’ll find several beautiful spaces that incorporate a mix of both seasons, along with ideas for shifting your home from summer to fall decorating.
Transitioning from Summer to Fall Decor
While this space is decidedly summery, it could easily be updated for fall with a heavier throw blanket, like this one, and a couple of textured pillows:
A vintage rug in warm tones, along with a leather lumbar pillow and warm wood coffee table, lend an instant touch of fall to this beautiful living room:
Earth tones and a neutral color palette work in both summer and fall. Removal of the dark patterned pillow in front would instantly revert this space to a lighter, summery look.
A muted color palette, woven coffee table, and striped round ottomans lend a modern fall feeling to this contemporary space.
Dark accent tables, a textured rug, earthenware vases, pampas grass, and dried stems add a touch of fall to this light and airy living room:
Earth-toned pillows lend an instant fall look to this otherwise summery sitting room:
Warm wood accent pieces are an easy way to transition your home from summer to fall decor.
With its earthy, natural textures and backdrop of white, this beautiful bedroom exudes both summer and fall feelings! Switching out the artwork for a landscape in warm tones would completely shift this space to an autumnal look.
Here’s another beautiful space that celebrates summer to fall decor. The warmth in the wood coffee table, basket tray, and beads, as well as the floral arrangement, make this space feel relevant for fall. Switching out the light throw with a chunky knit throw — and perhaps adding in a couple of warm-toned pillows — would help prepare this space for the cooler months.

Summer to fall in our home
After the clean, simple look of summer, I’m adding back in a few extra pillows and throws in our living room and hearth room.
I love playing with textured fabrics like nubby throws, plush velvets, linen, and rugs. In addition to warmth and coziness, they add visual and tactile interest to our home for fall.
This cabinet, decorated with baskets, books, and neutral finds from around our home can easily transition to fall without many changes.
Here’s a late-summer look in our dining room. For autumn, I’ll probably replace the orchids with a big fall arrangement in the middle of the dining table and add a few fall touches to the console table.
Our patio even receives a dose of fall warmth with the addition of a few extra throws and blankets. Here’s a look from last fall:
