Even though I don’t usually start decorating our home for fall until the weather cools down a bit, I do start scouting out the fall decor trends and gathering inspiration in August and early September.
If you’re in the mood to shop for fall home decor and furnishings, this is a great time to find this season’s on-trend items and easily transition your home to a warmer feeling for fall.
To help you get started, today I’m sharing this year’s fall home decor trends, along with a few favorite fall home finds and autumn decorating ideas.

By slowly easing into fall decorating, I think it makes the transition from summer to fall a little easier.
And when it comes to decorating your home for fall–or any season–there are no set rules, other than doing what makes you happy and resonates with your own design style. So when I talk about design trends, I don’t want to give you the idea that you need to follow the crowd and jump on the fall decorating bandwagon before you’re ready.
I do, however, think it helps to have a general idea of the current decorating trends. First, because it opens your mind to new ideas and inspiration; and second, because it helps make the decision process easier when you’re shopping for items for your home.
What are the fall decor trends for 2022?
Whereas summer home decor trends featured a light, organic feeling, fall is all about rich color, contrast, vintage pieces, and luxurious textures. Here are a few of the interiors trends I’m loving for this autumn:
1. Blue
Classic blue, in all its hues, is still playing a big part this fall, particularly in shades of navy, and I couldn’t be happier. I always return to blue as a color that promotes positivity and elegance in a space without being too overwhelming–or underwhelming!

Blue works well with all other hues and tones, bringing a lightness and reassuring quality to our homes that will resonate with our lifestyles in 2022 and beyond.

The other fall color trends–eggplant, dusty green, umber, ochre, and terracotta–all pair beautifully with rich indigo, sky blue and navy blue.
2. Canopy Beds
You’ll see canopy beds everywhere this fall–and this is one trend I don’t see going away any time soon.
A canopy bed is such a statement-making piece that you don’t have to add much more to complete the space. And with the growing desire for lighter, airier spaces, a canopy bed adds a much-needed grounding effect to the bedroom.
3. Natural Wood Elements in the Kitchen
While all-white kitchens are classic and timeless, non-white kitchens are having a moment. Think natural woods, blacks and unexpected pops of color. See my post on Blue Kitchen Cabinets for more ideas.

4. Floral Wallpaper.
The popularity of floral wallpaper is a sign of things to come, as all things vintage are making a comeback (see trend no. 5). Here are some beautiful wallpaper options:
If you’re not quite ready to jump on the wallpaper bandwagon, peel and stick wall coverings are an easy, non-permanent way to add ambience to your spaces without the commitment of regular wallpaper.
5. Vintage Accents.
Another fall decor trend you can expect to see everywhere is vintage anything–especially items with a patina. This is the perfect time to display your favorite quirky pieces, flea market finds, and travel mementos.

6. High Contrast.
High contrast spaces continue to rule in 2022. If you’d like to add a bit of contrast to your spaces, think about adding a pop of black, via a coffee table, pillows, lighting, or small decorative items, all of which were incorporated in this beautiful open concept living room and kitchen:
Here’s how to incorporate two trends at once: a black canopy bed, on its own, creates contrast. But pair it with bold black, white and gray accents, and you have a beautiful high-contrast space.
7. Velvet.
Once again, luxurious velvet is a big player in this year’s fall interior design forecast.

A simple velvet pillow cover or two, like these from H&M Home, is enough to give your living room or bedroom a touch of chic fall decor in an instant.

Incorporating any of these fall decorating trends in your home doesn’t have to cost a fortune. In fact, adding just one or two new elements can give your home an entirely new look–whether it’s a few vintage pieces or one or two luxurious velvet pillows.
